Department: Not specified Reports To: Director Medical Services Key Duties & Job Responsibilities: - Conduct conclusive diagnoses and treatments based on comprehensive history-taking, examinations, and appropriate investigations (e.g., lab tests, imaging) per IHK protocols.
- Be fully conversant with hospital/health center facilities, systems, and corresponding charges/fees.
- Follow up on all cases, ensuring lab tests, imaging, and consultations are completed and medical attention is thorough.
- Provide OPD cover, ensuring timely patient care and regularly checking the patientsâ card box to avoid delays.
- Be proficient in using and maintaining medical equipment.
- Liaise with external medical service providers for patient-related information.
- Collaborate with specialists for proper management of referred patients or consultations for IHK patients.
- Train or instruct junior medical staff on patient management, including triage and handling.
- Stay updated with medical systems through regular CME attendance/presentations (held every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. in the Boardroom and monthly online CMEs) and regular reading.
- Review ambulance cases to ensure adequate and uninterrupted patient care during transit.
- Understand policies on charges and health schemes, accurately complete insurance claim forms, and ensure treatment aligns with clientsâ entitlements.
- Continually assess systems and suggest improvements.
- Provide ward cover, ensuring comprehensive patient management and clear written records in patient files.
- Conduct regular, comprehensive ward rounds when on duty.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and personally hand over to the next Medical Officer on shift (do not leave duty without proper handover).
- Perform any additional duties assigned as needed.
Person Specifications: Qualifications: - Medical degree from a recognized, reputable institution.
- Valid Annual Practicing License and Registration Certificate.
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitionersâ Council.
Years of Experience: - Minimum of one year of professional experience post-internship.
Skills Required: - Ability to work long hours under pressure.
- Strong practical skills.
- Problem-solving and effective decision-making abilities.
- Leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication, compassion, and good bedside manner.
