Duties and Responsibilities: - Provide accurate, clear, and timely sign language interpretation at all designated events, ensuring smooth communication.
- Interpret during internal meetings, training, conferences, and any other activities as required by the project.
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials (agendas, content notes, etc.) prior to meetings.
- Assist in creating an inclusive environment by promoting awareness of sign language needs among project staff and stakeholders.
- Support communication in a variety of settings, which may include one-on-one interactions, group sessions, online meetings, and public presentations.
- Attend assigned meetings, workshops, and events to provide sign language interpretation as needed.
- Liaise with event organizers to understand the event agenda, topics, and specific requirements to ensure accurate interpretation.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information shared during meetings.
- Provide interpretation that reflects the tone, style, and intent of the speakers while adhering to professional sign language interpreting standards.
- Offer support in ensuring Organizational commitment to inclusivity is reflected in all communications.
Qualifications and Experience - Certified sign language interpreter with proficiency in English and Luganda
- 2 years of experience in professional sign language interpretation.
- Familiarity with technical vocabulary related to work areas like development cooperation, environmental sustainability, education.
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and an understanding of inclusivity principles.
- Flexibility and adaptability to various work environments and audiences.
- Knowledge of remote interpreting tools and techniques for online meetings (e.g., Zoom, Teams) is desirable.
