MAJOR FUNCTIONS
The intern will assist in the implementation of conservation projects and contribute to WWF Uganda’s work of protecting the country’s rich natural resources. S/he will have practical experience in biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, and community engagement and inclusion in conservation. The intern will be responsible for assisting the conservation teams in the implementation of innovative and dynamic environmental awareness and outreach activities in supporting the management and execution of conservation activities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
â— Provide support to the wildlife teams in planning for conservation initiatives.
â— Assist the wildlife teams in supervising and managing sustainable natural resources in the specific wildlife protected areas.
â— Work with the conservation teams in ideation and implementation of youth engagement initiatives.
â— Provide support to the conservation team in the management and mentoring of environmental groups.
â— In collaboration with communication personnel liaise with Community and document the impacts related to livelihood investments done within respective landscape
â— Provide support in activity report writing and provide data inputs to WWF technical progress reports
â— Perform other activities relating to conservation as defined by WWF Uganda Country Office and supervisor
â— Maintain a good image of the organization to ensure that WWF remains among the most respected in the country and beyond
â— Produce performance reports quarterly and at the end of the internship period for assessment.
â— Travel with project staff for field assignments in areas where WWF Uganda has projects.
Required Qualifications
◠A Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Natural resources management, Forestry, Environmental Science, Tourism, or any related courses.
Required Skills and Competencies.
â— Good computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
â— Willingness and ability to frequently travel within the project area.
â— Ability to socialise and participate in community activities.
â— Excellent oral and written communication skills.
â— Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
â— Demonstrates ability and willingness to work in a diverse, multicultural, and intergenerational environment.
â— Ability to plan, organize and coordinate workload.
â— Fluency in Runyakitara is an added advantage.
