UN Global Pulse Uganda has developed multiple web-based tools to support data-driven decision-making. One of these tools, the Tourism Activity Tracker, provides real-time insights into tourism patterns. However, the tool requires a well-designed user interface to enhance user experience and accessibility.
Job Summary: Â Â We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Front-End Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building and optimizing responsive web applications using modern front-end technologies and frameworks. He/she should have a strong understanding of UI/UX principles and a demonstrated ability to create seamless, high-performance user experiences across various devices and screen sizes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and maintain responsive web applications with a focus on performance and scalability.
- Collaborate with back-end developers to create intuitive and visually appealing interfaces.
- Implement front-end components using modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Ensure web applications are optimized for maximum speed, scalability, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following industry best practices.
- Integrate APIs and work closely with back-end teams to develop seamless data interactions.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging front-end development trends and technologies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve front-end performance issues and bugs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Required experience
- 3+ years of experience in front-end development with a focus on responsive web applications.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Strong knowledge of CSS preprocessors (SASS, LESS) and frameworks like Tailwind or Bootstrap.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling (AJAX, Fetch, Axios).
- Knowledge of front-end build tools (Webpack, Vite, Parcel) and task runners (Gulp, Grunt).
- Experience with performance optimization techniques, including lazy loading, code splitting, and caching strategies.
- Understanding of accessibility and SEO best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an agile development environment.
- Proven experience in frontend development for data visualization platforms or public sector systems
Preferred Skills
- Experience with TypeScript and state management libraries (Redux, Vuex, Zustand, or Recoil).
- Knowledge of testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, or Cypress.
- Experience with server-side rendering (SSR) and static site generation (SSG).
- Familiarity with cloud-based deployment platforms such as Vercel, Netlify, or AWS.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- A strong understanding of UI/UX principles.
