The National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARI’s) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at PARIs and NARO Secretariat.
Responsibilities or duties
- Prepare Culture Media: Prepare and sterilize plant tissue culture media according to standard protocols.
- Establish Explants: Establish plant tissues (explants) in vitro under sterile conditions.
- Subculture: Transfer and maintain plant cultures through regular subculturing.
- Micropropagation: Multiply plantlets through micropropagation techniques.
- Acclimatization: Assist in acclimatizing tissue-cultured plantlets to greenhouse or field conditions.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of culture initiation, growth, and contamination.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure sterile working conditions, including cleaning laminar flow hoods and sterilization of equipment.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain stock of media components, chemicals, and supplies.
