Background
The National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARIâs) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at PARIs and NARO Secretariat.
Responsibilities
- Sample Collection: Collect diseased plant samples from the field and transport them to the laboratory.
- Diagnosis: Isolate and identify plant pathogens (fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes) using microscopic and molecular techniques.
- Pathogenicity Tests: Conduct pathogenicity tests to confirm disease causation.
- Disease Monitoring: Monitor disease incidence and severity in field trials and provide early warning reports.
- Maintain Cultures: Maintain pure cultures of plant pathogens for research purposes.
- Greenhouse Studies: Assist in greenhouse experiments on disease resistance and management.
- Data Recording: Maintain accurate records of diagnostic findings and experimental results.
