As the operational and coordination hub, you will manage caseloads, research projects, and partnerships, ensuring our legal team works effectively and efficiently. This position is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with a passion for environmental law, strong project management skills, and the ability to bridge legal strategy with community engagement. Key Responsibilities Case & Project Management - Track case milestones, deadlines, and deliverables across the clinicâs docket.
- Maintain and organize case files, legal documents, evidence archives, and research materials.
- Coordinate legal intake processes for communities and partners.
- Draft, proofread, format, and file legal documents and correspondence.
Research & Knowledge Management - Conduct preliminary legal and policy research under the guidance of clinic advocates.
- Summarize legislation, case law, regulatory notices, and scientific reports.
- Maintain internal knowledge systems, including databases of experts, precedents, and resources.
- Prepare briefs and presentation materials for legal strategy meetings, court proceedings, and stakeholder engagements.
Partnerships & Community Engagement - Serve as liaison between the legal team, community partners, clients, and external experts.
- Coordinate consultations, client meetings, and witness interviews.
- Develop accessible legal education materials for outreach and advocacy.
Clinic Operations & Grant Support - Manage the clinicâs calendar, meetings, and logistics for hearings, depositions, and site visits.
- Support grant management by tracking deliverables, assisting with reporting, and maintaining compliance documentation.
- Oversee relationships with vendors such as court reporters, translators, and process servers.
Compliance & Administration - Ensure adherence to professional legal standards, confidentiality, and internal protocols.
- Assist with onboarding and supervision of interns and volunteers.
- Handle administrative tasks to keep clinic operations running smoothly.
Qualifications & Experience Essential - Bachelorâs Degree in Law.
- Minimum 2 yearsâ experience in a legal, regulatory, or policy-focused environment (law firm, NGO, government agency, or corporate legal department).
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills with ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficiency in legal research tools (ULII, Westlaw, LexisNexis etc, MS Office Suite, and document management systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated passion for environmental justice and the role of law in advancing social change.
Desirable - Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center (LDC).
- Enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all subordinate courts.
- Formal legal assistant training.
- Experience in environmental law, administrative law, or non-profit legal work.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and policy frameworks.
- Experience supporting grant-funded projects.
- Proficiency in a second language relevant to Greenwatchâs regions of work.
