About US:
Shared Action Africa targets refugee populations and host communities under its integrated family planning project implemented in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Isingiro District in Uganda. The settlement hosts over 180,000 Refuges from Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, and South Sudan. The project aims at improving access to modern short-term, long-term and permanent family planning methods for and men of reproductive age in Nakivale refugee settlement and host communities in Isingiro district in Uganda. To achieve its objectives, the project will collaborate with, peer agencies, government bodies and community based organizations that provide complementary services (financial and energy) to improve access to sexual and reproductive health services by refugee populations and host communities in Nakivale and Oruchinga Refugee Settlement.
Job Summary: The sexual and reproductive health coordinator will work with partners including peer agencies, health facilities, and community based organizations to lead implementation of project activities in the field. Specifically, the candidate in this position will do the following
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Overseeing Field Operations with regard to Sexual and Reproductive Health in project area:
- Oversee the day-to-day implementation of project activities in the project area specifically the delivery of services in all supported communities through the community outreach program, partner organizations and health facilities in line with project plans.
- Develop field based work plan based on the approved project work plan detailing activities to be undertaken and support team members and collaborators on the projects.
- Be the field point person for all sexual and reproductive health related activities in the project focus area. The holder will support management to identify and mobilize stakeholders who will be collaborators in the implementation of activities, oversee activity implementation, implement and sustain knowledge and demand for services
- Organize forums and create awareness and understanding of the project activities amongst supporting partners and stakeholders
- Lead in needs assessments undertaken by the project in the area, including those for training of health workers, peer educators, community health workers (VHTs), and any other assessments to be undertaken in the sexual and reproductive health program.
- Actively participate in the drawing, implementation and supervision of quarterly and annual program implementation plans.
- Support the program in the establishment and maintenance of effective follow-up and support system for partner agencies on sexual and reproductive health components as planned, ensuring good performance of the relevant SRH indicators.
- Support training of peer educators, VHTs and health workers across collaborating health facilities
Supporting Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning on Sexual and Reproductive Health.
- Conduct the inception meeting for project stakeholders; Orientation for field operations staff on project including work planning and training for field operations teams on data requirements for program management and decision-making.
- Extracting, compiling and analyzing data based on set indicators and analysis of performance indicators, health facilities to compile a monthly report. Using the consolidated report, develop action points to be incorporated in monthly supervision work plans to address low performing indicators on a monthly basis.
- Identify and document challenges in implementation on a monthly basis that would have negative impact and or undermine the performance of the program and identify solutions and implement actions on timely basis to avert negative performance.
- Document information and write reports of all project activities undertaken at least 5 days after implementation. Use information generated by the activities to analyze gaps and plan for appropriate mitigation
- Share monthly data on indicator performance, discuss with partners and volunteers and ensure they are aware of the indicators performance and that they are able to identify actions to enhance performance
- Timely respond to all data queries arising from partners.
- Maintain an updated database for all beneficiaries in the assigned project activities undertaken at least 5 days after implementation, type and share with supervisor
- Document program successes and dissemination of lessons, best/promising practices within and externally; Document success stories and promising practices and share these in project reports.
- Familiarize and work within SAA’s regulations and policies and adhere to them during implementation of project activities.
Supervision and management of Field Operations Team and partner CBOs as regard sexual and reproductive health
- Develop criteria for selection of project volunteers and stakeholders; and participate in the recruitment of the same.
- Undertake supportive supervision various implementing partners (CBOs) to offer quality sexual and reproductive health services, while mentoring and training Volunteers, and health workers to deliver technically correct and quality services.
- Support project volunteers such as peer educators and VHTs to develop work plans in line with project targets and deliverables and supervise the implementation of the same
- Ensure the health workers and VHTs are updated on all protocols for guiding them in implementing quality sexual and reproductive health services and any other health services that SAA will be supporting.
- Develop individual operation plans and supervision plans to enhance focused support to peer educators, VHTs and health workers.
Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of SAA resources in the field office.
- Managing and accounting of project advance in accordance with SAA’s Finance policy.
- Ensure safety and proper use of all SAA property in your possession including, computers and other program equipment in the field office.
- Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of office and assets and ensure that defects are reported in a timely manner to management.
- Familiarize and work within SAA’s regulations and policies and adhere to them during implementation of project activities.
Linkage and networking with other collaborators.
- Represent SAA in relevant community development planning meetings.
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship with other SAA colleagues, Partner agencies, district official, MoH staff, CBOs, other stakeholders and enhance SAA’s image.
- Liaise with the district authorities, GoU, CBOs, collaborators and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Actively participate in joint project sessions convened by management as called from time to time.
- Enhance teamwork and synergy in SAA’s programming and activities

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Academic Qualifications
- BSc in Nursing or State Enrolled Community Health Nurse (SECHN) with at least 3 years field experience in population or Sexual/Reproductive Health
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Public Health with specializations in sexual and reproductive health.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN): Nurses with an MSN specializing in reproductive health, maternal health, or sexual health counseling.
- Master of Public Health (MPH) with specialization in sexual and reproductive health, including topics like family planning, maternal health, and HIV/AIDS prevention.
Competencies
- A broad grasp of socio cultural economic issues with respect to SRH
- Technical knowledge in Sexual and Reproductive health
- Understanding of development and relief issues
- Extensive knowledge of participatory approaches.
- Experience with working with, civil society, donors and local communities or refugee populations
- Training/coaching/ facilitation skills
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills
- The ability to work independently, think innovatively and strategically and work effectively within a team
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of local language spoken in the project area as well as other languages spoken by the refugee communities is an added advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detailed understanding and experience of gender and diversity issues and commitment to addressing inequalities in all the key areas of responsibility
- Demonstrate high levels of initiative
- Flexibility in tasks undertaken
- Ability to speak local language of the area/community
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Working knowledge of MS computer packages
