The role involves advising the Governing Council and management, drafting contracts, representing the institution in legal matters, and ensuring adherence to governance and regulatory frameworks. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Legal Advisory Services - Provide legal advice on institutional policies, contracts, agreements, and regulatory compliance.
- Interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, and institutional guidelines.
- Advise management on legal risks and mitigation strategies.
2. Contract Management - Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, MOUs, and agreements.
- Ensure contracts are legally sound and protect the institutionâs interests.
- Maintain and manage contract records and renewals.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Governance - Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor legal developments affecting higher education institutions.
- Assist in policy formulation to align with legal and governance frameworks.
4. Litigation & Dispute Resolution - Represent the institution in legal proceedings.
- Handle disputes, disciplinary matters, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
- Prepare legal documentation and defense strategies for litigation cases.
5. Intellectual Property & Legal Documentation - Safeguard the institutionâs intellectual property (IP) rights.
- Draft and review legal documents, reports, and policies.
- Ensure proper legal documentation of institutional assets and transactions.
6. Stakeholder Engagement & Training - Conduct legal training and sensitization for staff and management.
- Engage with external legal bodies, government agencies, and regulators.
- Provide legal support to various departments.

Person Specifications Education & Qualifications - Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized institution.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (or equivalent bar certification).
- Masterâs degree in Law (LL.M) (optional but advantageous).
- Advocate of the High Court (or equivalent legal license).
Experience - 5-7 years of legal experience, preferably in academic or public sector institutions.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Contract Law
- Labor & Employment Law
- Corporate Governance & Compliance
- Higher Education Regulations
Skills & Attributes Legal Expertise: - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
