Responsibilities or duties The Senior Lecturer – Pharmacy shall report to the Head of Department and shall: - Provide academic leadership in pharmacy education, research, clinical pharmacy practice and community engagement within the Department of Pharmacy.
- Deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy education through lectures, tutorials, practical laboratory sessions, simulation and clinical instruction.
- Promote excellence in pharmaceutical research, scholarly publication, innovation and postgraduate supervision.
- Mentor junior academic staff, pharmacy students and early-career researchers.
- Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance and academic governance within the Department, School and University.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department, Dean or University Management.
Purpose of the Job To contribute to excellence in pharmacy education through high-quality teaching, laboratory and clinical training, research, innovation and community engagement; promote evidence-based pharmaceutical practice; strengthen postgraduate education and supervision; enhance research productivity and scholarly publication; and support the University's strategic objectives in teaching, research and service. Duties and Responsibilities - Prepare and deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, simulation-based learning and clinical pharmacy teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Design, review and continuously improve pharmacy curricula to ensure alignment with competency-based pharmacy education, accreditation standards and emerging pharmaceutical and healthcare needs.
- Coordinate and supervise students during experiential learning, clinical placements, industrial attachments and professional practice in affiliated hospitals, pharmaceutical industries and regulatory institutions.
- Develop, administer and moderate examinations, laboratory assessments, Objective Structured Practical Examinations (OSPEs) and other student evaluation methods.
- Supervise undergraduate research projects, Master's dissertations and postgraduate pharmacy research.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacoeconomics or related disciplines.
- Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals and contribute to scholarly books, book chapters and conference proceedings.
- Lead or participate in funded research projects, consultancies and interdisciplinary research initiatives.
- Mentor junior academic staff and postgraduate students in teaching, research, publication, grant writing and professional development.
- Participate in curriculum development, programme review, accreditation and quality assurance activities.
- Integrate simulation, digital technologies and innovative teaching methodologies into pharmacy education.
- Identify research funding opportunities and prepare competitive grant proposals.
- Build collaborative partnerships with hospitals, the National Drug Authority, National Medical Stores, pharmaceutical industries, research institutions, government agencies and international partners.
- Participate in departmental, School and University committees and contribute to academic planning and policy implementation.
- Provide professional pharmacy services through consultancy, continuing professional development programmes, medicines information services and clinical pharmacy support where appropriate.
- Participate in medicine use awareness campaigns, antimicrobial stewardship programmes, pharmacovigilance activities, public health outreach and other community pharmacy initiatives.
- Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethical pharmacy practice and academic integrity.
- Prepare periodic academic, research and administrative reports.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the University Management.
Qualifications or requirements Applicants must: - Hold an earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a relevant pharmacy discipline from a recognised university.
- Demonstrate excellence in university teaching, professional pharmacy practice, research and postgraduate supervision.
- Possess a strong record of scholarly publication, curriculum development, academic leadership and community engagement.
Academic Qualifications and Experience - An earned PhD or equivalent academic doctorate in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline.
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
- Registration and a valid practising licence with the Pharmacy Council of Uganda or an equivalent recognised professional regulatory body.
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressive university teaching, research and professional pharmacy practice at the rank of Lecturer or equivalent.
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy education.
- A demonstrated record of at least three (3) peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science or equivalent databases.
- Successfully supervised at least two (2) postgraduate students to completion, including Master's students.
