Role Context The Senior Lecturer â Data Science shall report to the Head of Department, Computing, AI and Data Science. Purpose of the Job To contribute to excellence in Data Science education through high-quality teaching, research, innovation and postgraduate supervision; strengthen the University's research capacity in data analytics and intelligent systems; promote evidence-based decision-making through data-driven research; and contribute to national and global digital transformation through data science and analytics. Responsibilities - Provide academic leadership in Data Science teaching, research and innovation.
- Deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Data Science and related computing disciplines.
- Promote excellence in research, scholarly publication, postgraduate supervision and curriculum development.
- Mentor junior academic staff and contribute to the strategic growth of the Department.
- Foster partnerships with industry, government and research institutions to promote data-driven innovation and digital transformation.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department, Dean or University Management.
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Data Science, including statistical modelling, machine learning, big data analytics, data mining, data engineering, business intelligence, predictive analytics, data visualization and related disciplines according to the candidate's area of expertise.
- Prepare course outlines, teaching materials, laboratory practicals, assessments and examinations in accordance with university policies and quality assurance standards.
- Supervise undergraduate final-year projects and supervise or co-supervise Master's students to successful completion.
- Conduct high-quality research in Data Science and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals, indexed conference proceedings and recognised scholarly platforms.
- Participate in curriculum development, programme review and accreditation to ensure programmes remain aligned with emerging technologies and international best practices.
- Mentor Lecturers, Assistant Lecturers and Teaching Assistants in teaching, research, publication and professional development.
- Participate in departmental administration, quality assurance and academic governance.
Qualifications and Experience - An earned PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or a closely related discipline from a recognised university.
- A Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant post-PhD academic and/or industry experience, including at least two (2) years of full-time university teaching.
- A minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals, indexed conference proceedings or scholarly book chapters since the award of the PhD.
- Demonstrated experience or active involvement in postgraduate supervision.
- Evidence of funded research, consultancy, innovation or industry collaboration will be an added advantage.
Teaching, Research and Innovation Requirements - Expertise in Data Science, analytics and emerging data technologies.
- Experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Data Science courses.
- Active engagement in research and scholarly publication in Data Science or related disciplines.
- Experience supervising undergraduate research and postgraduate students.
- Ability to secure research funding and contribute to collaborative research and innovation.
