Key Duties and Responsibilities The School Nurse will: - Provide basic nursing care and first aid to students and staff.
- Assess students presenting with illness, injury or other health concerns.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records.
- Manage the school sick bay/health facility and ensure it is adequately equipped.
- Administer medication only in accordance with authorised medical instructions and applicable procedures.
- Identify health conditions requiring referral to health facilities.
- Coordinate referrals and follow up on students requiring medical attention.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and accidents.
- Provide health education on hygiene, nutrition, menstrual health, sexual and reproductive health, disease prevention and general well-being, as appropriate.
- Promote good personal hygiene and sanitation among students.
- Support school health screening and health-promotion activities.
- Monitor students with ongoing health needs in collaboration with parents/guardians and health professionals.
- Maintain appropriate records of illness, treatment, referrals and incidents.
- Support school emergency preparedness and first-aid arrangements.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect studentsâ dignity and privacy.
- Work collaboratively with school management, teachers, parents/guardians and health facilities.
- Participate in safeguarding and child-protection initiatives.
- Perform other health-related duties assigned by the Head Teacher.
Minimum Qualifications - Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.
- Valid registration and practising licence with the relevant professional regulatory body in Uganda.
- Current professional registration/licensing must be maintained throughout employment.
Experience - Relevant nursing experience is required.
- Previous experience working in a school, adolescent health setting or community health environment is an advantage.
Key Competencies - Strong clinical and first-aid skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate and patient approach.
- Ability to work effectively with adolescent girls.
- High level of confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Strong emergency-response skills.
- Good health-record management.
- Commitment to child safeguarding and student welfare.
