We are currently on a 15 acre campus with classes kept to a maximum of 20 students and double-streamed from K-Grade 12.
Job Summary:   The primary function of the School Counselor is to provide a comprehensive counseling program for all children at Heritage International School. The School Counselor also consults with teachers, parents and staff to enhance their well-being in helping students, and to provide support to other educational programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate the objectives, strategies, and activities of a developmental school counseling program
Responsible for the confidential counseling services to students as needed.
Responsible for advice and support to staff
Responsible for maintaining appropriate and confidential records.
Liaise with the Director SSS and SSS Staff and teaching staff on a frequent basis.
Provide regular (audit) information such as numbers, age range and types of problems to the Director SSS.
Quarterly report writing and keeping relevant support systems up to date on student’s progress and wellbeing.
Have a thorough knowledge of the Mental Health provision locally and internationally and have a continued effort to broaden the network
Guide the development and implement a competitive school counseling program that focuses on and promotes students’ success
Implement transitions- and TCK support to students individually or in small groups.
Value and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students, evaluate their areas of strength and advocate for students
Ensure equitable access to opportunities and rigorous curriculum for all students
Provide group or individual responsive services related to mental health, friendship issues, bullying, misbehavior etc.
Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, community organizations and other stakeholders
Offer safeguarding and mental health workshops for staff and / or parents
Perform well being related assessments, interpret assessment results
Availability for leading Life Skills classes in the area of Mental Health and related topics in Secondary School.
Availability for the school’s Wellbeing Helpline.
Supporting and implementing the 4 Wellbeing programs
Supporting and implementing the Peer Mentoring program
Create and implement mental health and wellbeing prevention and awareness strategies in the Heritage community.
Act responsibly and cooperate with the School on all issues regarding Health, Safety, Safeguarding, and Welfare
Professional Development
Annually submit in writing his/her professional goals to the SSS Director
and have a proactive approach in improving professionally.
Participate with faculty and administration in all-staff meetings, Committee meetings, parent-teacher meetings, professional development and in-service activities
Take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research and developments which may lead to improvements in the counseling service provided.
To arrange and deliver relevant training for staff as and when needs are identified.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Professional Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters level in Counseling or Psychotherapy
Minimum of 2 year’s post qualification experience
Minimum of 1 year’s experience of working with students in the area of counseling / wellbeing
Well?versed in psycho?educational interventions.
Experience and expertise in running effective staff /Â parent education workshops.
Proven success in providing effective leadership, motivation and guidance to students, staff and parents.
Demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues including the establishment of and participation in collaborative structures.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Understanding of the relevant school sections and its curricula, student and transitional grades.
Strong ICT skills and a knowledge of their effective use to support pedagogy and wellbeing within the Heritage community.
Demonstrated reliability in current position including an excellent attendance record.
Exhibit a continuing sense of God’s calling to minister at Heritage International School.
Demonstrates a respect for diversity of culture, religion, and different Christian traditions.
Further therapeutic training or qualification in working with children and young people.
Demonstrate a life congruent with our Statement of Faith of Heritage International School.
Previous travel and related experience preferred
