The vision Smallholder farmers across Uganda have access to resilient, reliable, affordable and performant indigenous seeds. Growing a wide range of locally-adapted varieties, they improve their yields hence increased household food and income. Current reality Indigenous varieties are disappearing, good quality indigenous seeds hard to find, hybrid varieties more prevalent. Many seed initiatives and community seed banks do not manage to serve demand at scale and fail to become commercially viable. The solution A movement, a decentralised network and a farmer-owned seed brand that partners with existing seed producers and community seed banks to multiply resilient and performant indigenous seeds, and better connect their supply to the market with sales via input stores. Job Summary: The Sales and Production Lead will play a key role in driving Eden Seedsâ sales and operations activities in Mubende and Mityana. This individual will oversee the production, distribution, and marketing of seeds while ensuring quality control and building strong relationships with farmers and agro-input shops. The person in this role needs to be a results-driven professional with a passion for agronomy, agroecology and farmer support. Responsibilities or duties - Engage and support agro-input shops and farmer cooperatives enrolled in the Eden Seeds network.
- Conduct weekly route calls and plan delivery days per week, for each route.
- Coordinate with the Director to process orders, manage delivery schedules, and follow up on restocking.
- Track shop performance, stock levels, and customer feedback.
- Maintain detailed sales records and generate weekly/monthly reports.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to increase seed uptake through agro-dealers, farmer cooperatives, and other channels.
- Manage the distribution of seeds to ensure timely delivery and minimize losses.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agro-input shops, farmer groups, and cooperatives.
- Support the expansion of Eden Seeds into new districts, including Mubende.
- Conduct market research to identify new sales opportunities and customer needs.
- Collaborate with the CEO and team to plan and execute promotional campaigns and trainings for farmers and agro-dealers.
- Ensure compliance with company standards in quality control, storage, and distribution processes.
Expected Outcomes: - Improved order processing efficiency and reduced delivery lead time.
- Enhanced shop loyalty and restocking consistency.
- Significant growth in sales volume through agro-input shops, farmer cooperatives, and institutional clients.
- Eden Seedsâ products reach more farmers in the new expansion district (Mubende).
- Timely and reliable seed delivery, minimizing delays, stockouts, and losses during transport.
- Agro-dealers, farmer groups, and cooperatives have improved trust and engagement with Eden Seeds, leading to repeat sales.
- Timely tracking of orders, payments, and inventory, allowing management to make informed decisions.
- Farmers can consistently access high-quality indigenous seeds, enhancing productivity and resilience.
- Smooth rollout of sales and distribution operations in Mubende and any other new districts.
- Regular reporting on customer preferences, demand trends, and market opportunities to inform product and business strategy.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills) Required Qualifications: - Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Agribusiness, Agronomy or related field is a MUST.
- Practical knowledge in crop science and seed production.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint).
- Strong arithmetic and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
Experience needed - Experience of 2-3 years, with a great sales track record in agro-input distribution or sales coordination preferred.
- Passion for agronomy, agroecology and a commitment to supporting farmers.
