Duties and responsibilities - Implement logistics support and material plan to manage advance shipment of hazardous goods to area of responsibility.
- Perform watch duties, including looking out for navigational hazards and monitoring the shipâs position at sea.
- Handle deck operations such as mooring and anchoring to ensure all activities are carried out safely and efficiently.
- Maintain the cleanliness and general upkeep of the deck, including painting, sweeping and washing
- Assist with the loading and unloading of cargo, equipment and supplies, adhering to set protocols to safeguard against damage.
- Participate in emergency drills and responding to emergencies, including manoverboard operations, firefighting and first aid.
- Utilize deck machinery and equipment, as well as performing routine checks to ensure they are in sound working condition.
Qualifications and Experience - At least Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent and the following maritime training;
- National Certificate of Competence Reg I/2, II/5
- Basic Safety Training VI/1 (Achieved within previous five (5) years)
- Medical fitness I/9
- Training onboard
Competences - Meet the requirements for certification as a rating forming part of a navigational watch.
- Seagoing service: have completed 18 months approved seagoing service in the deck department, or 12 months and completed approved training.
- Education & training: onboard training documented in a training book or approved training ashore with a minimum of 12 months sea service.
- Competence: meet the standard of competence specified in section A-II/5.
