Background
The National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARIâs) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at PARIs and NARO Secretariat.
Job Purpose
To independently conduct research leading to establishment of causes of plant diseases, their mode of transmission, epidemiology, forecast and management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Applicants should hold an Honourâs Bachelorâs Degree in Plant Science plus a Masterâs Degree in Agriculture related field.
- Should have three years demonstrated relevant working experience in a reputable organization in agriculture research environment.
- Proven record of publication in referred journals will be added advantage.
- Possession of a PhD is an added advantage.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify pathogens causing plant diseases.
- Undertake isolate, culture and characterise economically important plant causing pathogens.
- Conduct regular surveillance of economically important crop diseases in the country.
- Determine yield losses of economically important diseases on major crops
- Study and understand the epidemiology (interplay of factors) of plant diseases
- Develop appropriate disease management strategies.

Tenure of office: The tenure of office is a 5-year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance.
