SIHA works in partnership with grassroots organizations, civil society actors, and regional and international stakeholders to strengthen feminist movements, promote womenâs leadership, prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, and influence policies and practices that advance the rights of women and girls. SIHA implements a diverse portfolio of regional and country-level programmes funded by a range of institutional donors and implemented across multiple countries in the region. These programmes span humanitarian response, women, peace and security, governance, movement building, economic justice, research, advocacy, and organizational strengthening. Through its regional secretariat and country teams, SIHA works closely with partner organizations to ensure high-quality programme delivery, accountability, learning, and sustainable impact for women and girls across the region. Summary of the Position The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) is seeking an energetic self-starter, Editorial & Knowledge Management officer to strengthen the quality, consistency, and impact of the organizationâs publications, research, advocacy products, and communications. Working closely with SIHAâs Communications, Advocacy, Research, and Programme teams, the successful candidate will provide editorial, analytical, and content development support to ensure that SIHAâs written products effectively communicate the experiences, priorities, and voices of women and girls across the Greater Horn of Africa. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing, editing, analytical, and storytelling skills, with a strong understanding of feminist research, womenâs rights, advocacy, and policy discourse. The position requires the ability to translate complex research and programme evidence into accessible, compelling, and audience-specific content while ensuring consistency with SIHAâs writing style, editorial standards, and organizational voice. Key Responsibilities - Editorial Review and Quality Assurance: Lead the editorial review, copy-editing, and quality assurance of SIHAâs publications, research reports, policy papers, advocacy briefs, training manuals, concept notes, donor publications, and other institutional documents. Ensure all written products are accurate, coherent, evidence-based, consistent, and aligned with SIHAâs editorial standards, writing style, and feminist principles.
- Content Development and Storytelling: Develop, revise, and strengthen written content that communicates SIHAâs programmes, research, advocacy, and organizational impact. Support the production of compelling stories, case studies, impact stories, opinion pieces, speeches, and communications products that amplify the voices and lived experiences of women and girls while advancing SIHAâs advocacy objectives.
- Research and Knowledge Translation: Work closely with the Advocacy, Research, and Programme teams to translate research findings, programme evidence, and technical information into accessible products for diverse audiences, including policy makers, donors, partners, media, and the public. Support the development of research concept notes, analytical summaries, publications, and knowledge products that strengthen SIHAâs influence and thought leadership.
- Editorial Standards and Institutional Knowledge Management: Maintain and continuously improve SIHAâs editorial style guide, writing standards, templates, and documentation formats. Support staff across the organization to strengthen writing quality, documentation practices, and consistency in institutional publications while promoting effective knowledge management and organizational learning.
- Communications and Digital Content Support: Collaborate with the Communications and Advocacy team to review and strengthen website content, newsletters, social media messaging, campaign materials, and digital communications. Ensure that communications products are accurate, engaging, audience-appropriate, and consistent with SIHAâs messaging and organizational identity.
- Technical Support and Capacity Strengthening: Provide editorial guidance and writing support to programme teams, researchers, consultants, and country offices throughout the development of publications and communications products. Mentor staff on writing, documentation, storytelling, and content development while promoting high editorial standards across the organization.
Required Qualifications and Competencies - Education: Masterâs degree in Communications, Journalism, English, International Development, Gender Studies, Political Science, Social Sciences, Law, or another relevant discipline. Candidates with a Bachelorâs degree and substantial relevant professional experience will also be considered.
- Professional Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in content development, editorial review, copy-editing, research communications, publishing, or knowledge management within civil society, international development, academia, or media. Experience working on womenâs rights, gender equality, governance, or human rights issues is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of editorial processes, research writing, policy communications, publication development, storytelling, knowledge management, and content strategy. Strong understanding of feminist discourse, advocacy communications, and human rights documentation is highly desirable.
- Skills and Competencies: Exceptional writing, editing, analytical, and proofreading skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and persuasively. Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, Mailchimp, and major digital publishing and collaboration platforms. Experience with data visualization, infographics, graphic design, or multimedia content development is desirable.
