Job Description/Requirements Location: Kasese, Uganda Term: 1 year - renewable Start Date: Immediately (6-month probationary period) Company Overview Latitude Trade Company (LTC) is a rapidly growing social enterprise in Uganda sourcing specialty cacao for export and producing bean-to-bar chocolate at origin. Working with over 1,000 certified organic smallholder farmers, our mission is to sustainably increase incomes and reduce risk for our suppliers while positively impacting the community and environment surrounding our operations. We aim to provide chocolate makers and consumers in East Africa and around the world with the highest quality, transparently sourced, and fully traceable Ugandan cocoa products. Job Description The Quality Controller is a full-time role working to ensure proper standards and certifications are maintained at the factory for all operations including storage and processing. This position includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:  - Safe storage and accountability of raw materials and finished productsÂ
- Receiving and dispatching of raw materials and finished products including submission of order forms and coordinating procurement effortsÂ
- Quality control of finished products from factory including routine submission of randomly selected products for audit by Managing DirectorÂ
- Training of staff on food safety plans and certification requirementsÂ
- Ensuring all documents related to storage, production, food safety, certification, and quality control at the factory are available, properly filled and well-organizedÂ
- Conduct monthly internal audits of practices and processes in the factoryÂ
- Weekly review of production forms to check raw materials used vs output. Â
- Establishment and management of product recall program and protocolsÂ
- Coordination of all audits related to food safety and certificationsÂ
- Assist in the procurement of packaging supplies and the management of packaging processesÂ
- Assist in the coordination of shipping logistics and import / export requirementsÂ
- Assist colleagues in procurement, production, distribution, and transport of Latitude goods where possibleÂ
- In addition to these responsibilities, all employees are encouraged to propose programs, strategies or experiments which they feel offer a promising avenue for improvements to the company or livelihoods of the farmers.
Qualifications - 2+ years’ experience working in manufacturing, commercial food production, or quality controlÂ
- Diploma in food safety, manufacturing or similar relevant fieldÂ
- Fluent spoken and written EnglishÂ
- Ability and willingness to learn on the jobÂ
- Previous experience in the chocolate sector is an asset but not requiredÂ
