Responsibilities or duties
The Pure Mathematics Lecturer is expected to lead an independent research programme while delivering high-quality teaching in the field of pure mathematics. This involves integrating the principles of advanced mathematical theory into both instruction and scholarly inquiry.
Teaching and Learning:
Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and tutorials for undergraduate and postgraduate students in pure mathematics. Design, develop, and review course materials, ensuring the content remains relevant, current, and aligned with the curriculum.
Student Supervision and Mentorship:
Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects and dissertations. Provide academic guidance and support to students to foster their development as researchers and professionals.
Assessment and Evaluation:
Set, administer, and grade assignments, tests, and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback to students. Conduct continuous assessments and end-of-semester examinations to evaluate student progress.
Research and Scholarship:
Conduct independent research and publish findings in leading international, peer-reviewed journals. Seek and secure external research funding from national and international grant bodies to support a productive research programme.
Academic and Departmental Service:
Contribute to curriculum development and programme reviews. Participate actively in departmental and faculty meetings, and serve on academic committees as required. Liaise with the Head of Department to ensure teaching schedules are available before the semester begins.
