ETG Sustainable Coffee In Uganda, ETG is leading operations from Namanve warehouse in Kampala, overseeing several processing and warehouse units in Uganda that process coffee and warehouses inputs. ETG with itsâ Beyond Beans sustainability foundation is expanding its Agronomy projects within its Responsibly Sourced Coffee supply chain in different Robusta and Arabica coffee growing regions in Uganda.
Job purpose ETG Uganda is looking for a (senior) agronomist to join our Sustainable Coffee Uganda team in Kampala. The role is Kampala based, but with frequent visits to our coffee sourcing areas to implement and monitor projects or conduct farmer trainings. The key focus is being responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring our Coffee Agronomy projects including innovative R&D projects such as Biochar. You will be closely working with our Field Officers â Agronomy who are based in our coffee sourcing areas.
Key Responsibilities ⢠Planning, implementing, monitoring and executing agronomy projects such as shade tree distribution, nursery establishment, group and individual farmer trainings. ⢠Designing, implementing and monitoring of innovative R&D trials for e.g. Agroforestry plots, biochar projects and other agronomy related innovations
Key Qualifications & Requirements ⢠Bachelorâs degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Environmental Science or another related field. ⢠Masterâs degree in Agronomy or a related discipline is preferred ⢠5+ year of experience with setting up R&D trials for similar projects such as fertilizer R&D, crop yield R&D, soil improvement R&D, etc. ⢠5+ year of experience with managing field teams for project execution and monitoring ⢠Deep understanding of plant science, soil health and pest control methods ⢠Knowledge of and experience with implementing different types of certification schemes such as RFA, 4C and Organic. ⢠Experience with reporting to different stakeholders such as clients, partners and internal management. ⢠Experience with digital data collection tools, data quality checking & analysis. ⢠Experience and network in coffee sector in Uganda is a plus ⢠Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Teams) ⢠Fluent in English and Luganda, other local languages are a plus.
Interpersonal skills ⢠Communication: strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information, coordinate tasks and collaborate with team members and stakeholders. ⢠Organization: Excellent organizational skills to keep track of project schedules, documentation, and resources, ensuring that everything is well-managed and readily accessible. ⢠Coordination: To be adept at coordinating activities and tasks among team members, monitoring progress, and ensuring that everyone is working towards project goals. ⢠Administrative Skills: Proficient in administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes, managing project files, and handling project-related documentation. ⢠Problem Solving: An ability to identify and address potential issues and obstacles that may arise during project execution, finding suitable solutions or escalating problems to the Project Manager. ⢠Culture sensitive: Shows awareness and sensitivity to cultural nuances, adapting project strategies to align with the cultural contexts of the communities involved. ⢠Attention to details: Has an eye for detail to ensure accuracy in data collection, analysis and reporting ⢠Creative thinking: Ability to think creatively and come up with innovative, out-of-the-box ideas for projects and research.
