The project combines service delivery with community-level hygiene education and behavioral change promotion to improve and sustain the delivery of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services, addressing the acute needs of vulnerable populations. Key focus areas include enhancing borehole functionality, promoting environmentally friendly water treatment options, and ensuring the safe water chain to contribute to carbon offset. The Project Assistant will provide technical support for project implementation, including planning, organizing activities, reporting, documentation, monitoring, and partner engagement. Main Responsibilities and Duties Project Planning, Implementation, and Reporting - Contribute to planning and guiding WASH activities to ensure project outcomes are achieved.
- Develop Terms of Reference for trainings and consultancy works.
- Design behavior-centered hygiene campaigns with district stakeholders.
- Conduct regular monitoring of project sites and activities.
- Prepare monthly and final narrative reports as per donor requirements.
- Develop and conduct WASH trainings for health workers, school health clubs, handpump mechanics, and Water User Committees.
- Coordinate project reviews, baseline surveys, and end-of-project evaluations.
- Liaise with the Finance Department to track expenditures and address financial queries.
- Manage administrative tasks, including payment requisitions and accountability documentation.
- Build relationships with stakeholders and represent WaterAid at district-level meetings.
- Promote climate-smart hygiene practices and non-energy-intensive water treatment options.
- Collaborate with district water offices for water quality testing.
Adherence to WASH M&E System, Documentation, and Learning - Support the update and management of the WASH reach database.
- Ensure project data aligns with WaterAidâs Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PMER) procedures.
- Provide supervision to communities, schools, and health facilities for quality WASH services.
- Oversee construction/rehabilitation works to meet WaterAid standards.
- Document and communicate project progress and success stories, including carbon credit claims.
- Organize reflection meetings, partner monitoring visits, and performance reviews.
- Ensure project implementation adheres to quality standards and best practices.
- Monitor and report risks to management.
Key Competences, Skills, Experience, and Knowledge - Qualifications: University degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Health Sciences, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 4 years in relevant duties; WASH experience is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Proven project management expertise.
- Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills (written and spoken English).
- Ability to manage competing demands and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail and ability to deliver quality work.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and a team player.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
