The project accountant is responsible for tracking project budgets, processing project-related transactions, and financial reporting & compliance in line with donor and organization guidelines. Key Responsibilities: - Budget Management: Prepare the monthly BVA reports for budgets insights to the financial performance.
- Software management: Utilize financial software to manage project accounting processes, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare timely financial reports and reconciliations for projects for onward submission to the Finance officer ranging from 3rd to 15th depending on projects.
- Expense Documentation: Maintain accurate and properly filed records of all project expenditures, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and donor policies.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flows related to the projects, predicting future cash needs to keep projects funded for timely communication to guide decisions
- Billing Management: Ensure timely processing of invoices for projectâs deliverables and monitor accounts receivable related to project income for timely reporting for decision
- Compliance Ensure adherence to applicable financial regulations and internal policies regarding project finances.
- Support audits: Prepare documentation and financial information for internal reviews and for external audits to support transparency and accountability.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, supervisors including other finance staff and other departments to align financial reporting with project objectives
- Perform any other duties that might be assigned to you from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience. - Bachelorâs Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- CPA or ACCA qualification, preferably completed or at an advanced level.
- A minimum of 3 years of project finance management experience in NGO setting.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, expenditure tracking, financial reporting, audit preparation, internal controls, bank reconciliations, tax compliance, and supporting procurement/payment documentation.
- Experience working with field offices or refugee-response operations would be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with Uganda tax requirements, including withholding tax and VAT treatment, will be useful because the RFP includes specific tax provisions for this contract.
