On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced Production Supervisor to be based in Kampala Responsibilities or duties Production Planning and Supervision - Supervise daily production activities and ensure production plans and targets are achieved.
- Allocate duties and responsibilities to production employees according to operational requirements.
- Monitor production processes to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
- Coordinate shift activities and ensure proper handover between shifts.
- Monitor production output against set targets and take corrective action where necessary.
- Ensure adequate availability and efficient utilization of raw materials, machinery, equipment, and other production resources.
Quality Control - Ensure production activities are carried out in accordance with approved quality standards and specifications.
- Monitor products at different stages of the production process to identify defects and deviations.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to address quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate causes of production defects and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure that finished products meet required specifications before being released to the next stage.
Machinery and Equipment - Monitor the condition and performance of production machinery and equipment.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance team to address equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
- Ensure operators use machinery and equipment correctly and safely.
- Report recurring equipment problems and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Support preventive maintenance activities to enhance equipment reliability.
Health, Safety and Environment - Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements within the production area.
- Enforce the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify and report workplace hazards and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near misses in accordance with established procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture among production employees.
- Ensure production areas are clean, organized, and compliant with housekeeping standards.
Inventory and Material Management - Monitor the use of raw materials and production supplies to minimize wastage.
- Ensure materials are properly handled, stored, and accounted for.
- Report shortages, damaged materials, and abnormal consumption to the relevant authorities.
- Work with Stores and Procurement teams to ensure timely availability of production materials.
Reporting and Documentation - Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports as required.
- Maintain accurate records of production output, downtime, wastage, quality issues, and other operational activities.
- Report production challenges and variances to the Production Manager.
- Track key production performance indicators and recommend improvements.
- Ensure proper documentation and handover of shift activities.
Qualifications or requirements Qualifications required: - A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience needed Experience required: - At least 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment preferably the Steel Sector
- Experience supervising and managing production teams.
- Experience working with production machinery, quality control systems, and workplace safety procedures.
