Job Description

Operate automated washing, de stoning, and dirt removal equipment to process incoming raw agricultural produce efficiently and safely.

Ensure continuous quality control and contaminant separation to deliver clean, safe raw inputs for downstream food processing.

Maintain plant hygiene, operational safety, and accurate processing documentation across all shifts.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate automated produce washing, stone separation, and dirt removal machinery according to approved start up, running, and shutdown procedures.
• Inspect work areas and confirm that all safety guards, raw materials, and utility supplies are in place before starting equipment.
• Monitor washing and separation processes continuously to ensure proper dirt and stone removal without exceeding authorized operating limits.
• Perform authorized minor mechanical and cleaning mechanism adjustments, promptly calling technical support for specialized faults.
• Conduct routine visual and physical checks on raw produce, immediately segregating and recording defective or contaminated items.
• Carry out thorough sanitation, allergen control, and cleaning procedures during line clearances and end of run shutdowns.
• Record machine settings, inspection findings, downtime, and operational check results accurately and legibly in official shift logs.
• Follow occupational safety, food hygiene, lockout/tagout protocols, and personal protective equipment requirements at all times.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

• Ordinary Diploma or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Food Processing, Production Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or Applied Sciences.
• Craft Certificate, National Certificate, or Technical Trade Certificate (such as UBTEB) in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
• Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) for trainees demonstrating literacy, numeracy, and mechanical aptitude.

Experience

No prior work experience required.

Includes 3 weeks of machine operation and safety training.
