PLC & Automation Controls Specialist Details Closing Date: 2026/10/29 Reference Number: DALI-2026-0083 Job Title: PLC & Automation Controls Specialist Job Category: Automation Job Type: Full Time Location, Town / City: Nakasongola Job Description Oversee the end to end operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant automation systems, including Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, HMI touchscreens, SCADA networks, and production line sensors. Deliver reliable technical diagnostic and preventative maintenance support to ensure continuous line efficiency while upholding strict safety, quality, and hygiene standards. Collaborate across operational teams to resolve automated controls issues, optimize equipment reliability, and sustain comprehensive technical documentation. Key Duties & Responsibilities - Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, HMI interfaces, SCADA systems, and automated line instrumentation.
- Enforce strict safe work controls and energy isolation procedures, verifying isolation and never bypassing safety interlocks without an approved controlled procedure.
- Inspect guards, connections, calibrations, and functional safety parameters prior to returning machinery to production operations.
- Execute planned preventive and predictive maintenance tasks, systematically recording early warning indicators such as vibration, temperature, and component wear.
- Diagnose control, electrical, and pneumatic failures using technical drawings, manuals, fault codes, and historical operating data.
- Coordinate planned maintenance windows and equipment handovers with production teams to prevent avoidable downtime and operational risk.
- Maintain accurate and traceable records, including maintenance logs, equipment settings, calibration records, and handover reports for audit readiness.
- Participate in root cause analyses of automation breakdowns to recommend sustainable improvements without making unauthorized changes to validated processes.
Skills - Ladder logic programming and PLC fault diagnosis across Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms.
- HMI configuration and SCADA interface maintenance.
- Industrial network troubleshooting using Profibus and Profinet standards.
- Systematic technical diagnostics using electrical drawings, manuals, and testing instrumentation.
- Safe isolation, lockout/tagout, and safety interlock compliance.
Education Qualifications & Experience Education Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, Instrumentation, or closely related technical disciplines.
- Higher Diploma, Ordinary Diploma, or National Diploma in Automation and Control, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Plant Maintenance.
- National Certificate, Craft Certificate, trade certification, or recognized technical apprenticeship (including UBTEB or other TVET pathways) in electrical or controls engineering.
- Manufacturer certifications in PLC platforms, electrical installation permits, or relevant statutory engineering credentials where applicable.
