CoRSU provides Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Rehabilitation, mainly for children as well as adults with disability. Established in 2006, CoRSU delivers specialized care to children with disabilities, particularly from underserved communities through the CBID program. The hospital conducts an average of 3,000 surgeries annually and has supported over 70,000 Surgeries, reaching more than 100,000 people with rehabilitation services. CoRSU works in partnership with government, donors, and communities to strengthen referral systems, promote inclusion and restore mobility, dignity, and hope across Uganda Responsibilities or duties Overall job objective: To provide treatment for physical problems resulting from illness, injury or disability and assists the rehabilitation process by developing and restoring the function of the body enabling patients to improve their mobility. Functional Outputs/Activities per key performance area: Assessment of patient Assessment - Provides assessment, plans care and delivers a range of physical treatments to resolve, restore or maintain physical based conditions.
- Assesses, treats and monitors mobility problems providing appropriate assistance from walking aids and supports.
Treatment Function - Provides treatment to reduce pain, increase mobility and limit secondary functional disability providing effective and evaluated individualized programs of care.
- Participate in ward rounds to communicate treatment plans and supports the medical team in providing holistic patient centered care
Multidisciplinary team function - Provides support to the medical multidisciplinary team by providing physiotherapy-based assessment of the patientâs physical conditions.
- Ensures the patientâs needs and progress is communicated to other members of the medical multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
- Attends the medical multidisciplinary team reviews as appropriate.
Medical Recordkeeping function - Maintains accurate and comprehensive treatment notes keeping a clinical record of treatment interventions.
Occupational Health & Safety - To work in such a way that does not cause injury to yourself, other staff members or customers.
- Following & complying with Health & Safety policies, processes & applying them to oneâs work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
- Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.
Continuing Education: - Stay current with the latest advancements in therapy practices through continuing education and professional development.
- Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives.
Financial Management - Managing and accounting for allocated resources, especially the consumables, by compiling and submitting relevant reports.
- Ensuring adherence to the unit budget to ensure optimal use of resources
Risk Management - Evaluating the patient's medical history, the potential benefits of the procedure, and the associated risks
- Continuously assesses risk inherent in department and ensures adherence to mitigation measures in place
Compliance - Adhering to high ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality is paramount
- Adhere to all CoRSU policies
Required qualifications, Experience, skills and Competencies - A diploma in physiotherapy or bachelorâs degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionalâs Council.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse environment
- Have Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies
- Have Strong clinical skills and knowledge of therapeutic techniques.
- Have Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
