Job Description

Provide mechanical maintenance and repair support across vertical form fill seal (VFFS) machines, sealers, wrappers, and boxing machinery to minimize operational downtime. Execute preventive and corrective servicing to return packaging equipment to service safely, reliably, and within quality and hygiene standards. Support operational continuity by systematically identifying root causes of mechanical failures and coordinating smoothly with production teams.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Perform mechanical repairs, timing adjustments, and component replacements on VFFS machines, sealers, wrappers, and boxing equipment during downtime. Execute packaging jaw alignments and pneumatic cylinder replacements to ensure correct machine operation and package integrity. Apply mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and stored energy isolations before intrusive work, ensuring safety interlocks are never bypassed without approval. Diagnose mechanical malfunctions systematically using technical drawings, equipment manuals, condition checks, and fault indicators. Complete scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance inspections, documenting early warning indicators such as wear, vibration, leakage, and abnormal noise. Verify machine guards, safety settings, alignments, lubrication, and functional performance before handing equipment back to operations. Coordinate equipment shutdowns and handovers with production staff, communicating clearly when machinery is safe to energize and operate. Maintain accurate, legible, and traceable records of maintenance activities, machine settings, checklists, and shift reports for audits and reviews. Identify necessary spare parts, tooling, and shutdown requirements in advance to prevent prolonged machine downtime and material waste.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Fitting, Industrial Engineering, Automation and Control, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Welding and Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Water Engineering, Chemical Technology, Civil or Building Engineering, Plumbing, Marine Engineering, or a closely related technical field. Ordinary Diploma or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Fitting, Mechatronics, or related TVET/UBTEB technical disciplines. National Certificate, Craft Certificate, Trade Certificate, or recognized technical apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting, Plant Maintenance, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related industrial trades. Valid statutory certifications, registrations, or regulatory licences where required by Ugandan law or professional standards.

Experience

At least 2 years of experience servicing packaging machinery.
