Duties and Responsibilities - Taking detailed patient history, performing visual acuity tests, and conducting comprehensive eye examinations to detect refractive errors, eye diseases, and other visual impairments.
- Measuring a patient's refractive error to determine the correct lens prescription for glasses or contact lenses.
- Perform basic orthoptic and squint (strabismus) assessments, including ocular alignment and binocular vision assessment, within the scope of practice.
- Providing support to other eye specialties to manage common eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye syndrome etc.
- Advising patients on the best type of corrective lenses based on their visual needs and fitting eyeglasses or contact lenses.
- Explaining eye health concerns, providing information on proper eye care practices, and addressing patient questions.
- Promoting optical products and services within the clinic, including frames, lenses, and eye care packages.
Position requirements (Job and Person specifications) - Minimum qualification of a recognized diploma in Optometry from an accredited institution
- MUST be registered with the relevant medical board in Uganda to practice optometry
- At least 2 years of professional experience in Optometry practice from a recognized institution
- Candidates without prior experience must demonstrate the willingness and ability to undergo training and attain competency in squint assessment and management.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft office applications and software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with patients and staff.
- Detail-oriented and able to work under minimal supervision.
