MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: - Repurposes editorial print/newspaper content, and rewrite headlines and captions for facts, accuracy, taste, house-style, language use, clarity, details and objectivity.
- Edits copy to appropriate length, clarity and style without distorting facts or dispensing with salient points.
- Selects and edits pictures and write/re-writes appropriate captions to enhance their quality.
- Ensures proper laying out of copy and pictures/graphics in web pages.
- Tailors stories to reflect interests of international audience.
- Ensures timely publication and sign-off of online editions.
- Develops and strengthens the Monitor websites as a medium of breaking news.
- Updates stories regularly.
- Responds to feedback, complaints and suggestions from online readers.
- Initiates and develops content for the Monitor website and Online products.
- Constantly updates the Monitor Website.
- Captures video and repackages video content for digital platforms
Qualifications and Experience: Academic: University Degree in Mass Communication or any related field from an accredited institution. Professional: Diploma in Journalism Experience: At least 3 years journalism experience and demonstrated writing and editing experience in a newsroom Core Competencies - Excellent writing and editing skills, with good understanding of online writing and editing requirements such as the use of keywords, hyperlinks and navigation
- Must have a good eye for detail, with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work effectively with the team and collate material from multiple sources
- Forward thinking and able to strategize for all online platforms
- Internet and social media experience with good understanding of new media and web analytics.
- Goal driven with the ability to adapt to change and to new opportunities.
- Advanced Computer skills
- Demonstrable and proven experience in meeting deadlines
- Ability to track, review and manage team performance effectively
- Innovative and creative
