RELON is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering refugee-led organizations (RLOs) and strengthening their advocacy efforts in Uganda. We work towards building sustainable and effective networks that amplify the voices of refugees and advocate for their rights. Through capacity-building initiatives, training programs, and advocacy campaigns, RELON aims to foster collaboration and empower RLOs to lead positive change within their communities.
About the Project:
The “Build and Empower an Advocacy-Oriented Cohesive Coalition of Refugee-Led Organizations Nationwide (BEACON)”, a projected funded by the Conrad Hilton Foundation, aims to empower and unify refugee-led organizations (RLOs) throughout Uganda by enhancing their advocacy capacities and fostering collaboration among its members. This initiative operates under the Uganda Refugee-Led Organization Network (RELON), which was established in 2016. The project’s primary activities will consist of targeted training programs and collaborative advocacy e?orts designed to create a cohesive coalition of refugee-led organizations. These initiatives will enable RLOs to advocate e?ectively for refugee rights at local, district, national, regional, and global levels.
Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic, dedicated and professional candidates for the position of the Driver who will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of staff, materials, and stakeholders for the Refugee-Led Organization Network (RELON). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience driving within Uganda and a strong understanding of local traffic laws and regulations. This position is essential for supporting the operational effectiveness of RELON’s BEACON project, facilitating on-the-ground advocacy and capacity-building efforts.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Transportation:
- Safely transport RELON staff, stakeholders, and materials to various locations as required by the organization’s schedule, including meetings, events, and site visits.
- Plan and execute efficient routes to ensure timely arrivals while prioritizing safety and comfort.
Vehicle Maintenance and Management:
- Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in proper working condition, checking fluid levels, brakes, tires, and other safety-related components.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the vehicle, inside and out.
- Keep accurate logs of mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
Compliance with Regulations:
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations in Uganda, ensuring compliance while driving.
- Stay updated on road conditions, changes in traffic laws, and vehicle operation best practices.
Support with Logistics:
- Assist with loading and unloading of materials and equipment for events and activities as required.
- Collaborate with the logistics team to coordinate transportation needs for specific projects and initiatives.
Communication:
- Maintain open communication with the office to update on transportation schedules, potential delays, and other relevant matters.
- Report any vehicle malfunctions, accidents, or incidents to the appropriate personnel immediately.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Experience:
- A minimum of five years of professional driving experience within Uganda, with a proven track record of safe driving.
- Experience working with non-profit organizations or in similar roles is an advantage.
Licensing and Knowledge:
- Valid Ugandan driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
- Strong knowledge of Uganda’s driving laws, regulations, and road conditions.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent navigational skills with the ability to read maps and use GPS technology effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work within a dynamic team environment.
Language Proficiency:
- Fluent in English, with proficiency in local languages preferred to facilitate communication with local stakeholders and the community.
Additional Information:
- This position may involve occasional evening or weekend work, depending on project needs and events.
