Purpose of the Job. The Network & Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and secure operation of the organisationâs IT network and security infrastructure. The role involves planning, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network and security systems, enforcing security policies, supporting the data centre environment, and ensuring high availability and protection of critical systems and information resources. The position supports the Manager, IT Operations & Data Centre in delivering resilient, secure, and compliant technology services across the organisation. 2. Key Results Areas / Accountabilities. A. Network Infrastructure Administration. - Manage, monitor, and maintain LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and related network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, etc.).
- Ensure optimal performance, capacity, and scalability of network infrastructure.
- Implement routing, switching, and network segmentation in line with standards.
B. Security Operations & Governance. - Configure and manage security systems including next-generation firewalls, IPS/IDS, endpoint protection, SIEM, and threat-monitoring tools.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and recommend remediation actions.
- Enforce security policies, standards, and compliance requirements (ISO 27001, GDPR, PCI-DSS, etc., where applicable).
- Manage access control, identity management, and privileged accounts.
C. Data Centre & Systems Support. - Support data centre operations including network cabling, monitoring, backup networks, redundancy, and failover systems.
- Ensure secure connectivity for servers, storage, and cloud platforms.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
D. Incident & Problem Management. - Respond to and resolve network and security incidents within SLA.
- Conduct root cause analysis and develop long-term preventive measures.
- Maintain incident logs, reports, and risk registers.
E. Projects, Upgrades & Continuous Improvement. - Participate in design and implementation of new network and security initiatives.
- Research and recommend new technologies to enhance network performance and security posture.
- Assist with audits, penetration testing, and compliance reviews.
F. Documentation & Reporting. - Maintain accurate network diagrams, configuration records, inventories, and change logs.
- Prepare regular reports on network performance, security status, and incident trends.
3. Qualifications. Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related field. Professional certifications (preferred): CCNA / CCNP, CompTIA Network+ / Security, Fortinet NSE / Palo Alto PCNSA / Check Point CCSA, CEH, CySA+, or equivalent cybersecurity certifications. 4. Skills / Competencies. A. Technical Skills - Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing (BGP, OSPF), switching, VLANs, VPNs, and QoS.
- Hands-on expertise with firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and endpoint security tools.
- Experience with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, etc.).
- Knowledge of cloud networking and security (Azure/AWS) is an asset.
- Familiarity with data centre infrastructure, high-availability systems, and redundancy designs.
B. Behavioral Competencies - Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- High level of integrity and commitment to confidentiality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.

5. Experience. - Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in network administration and IT security operations.
- Experience working in enterprise-level or data centre environments.
- Proven involvement in network/security projects, incident response, and system hardening.
- Experience with compliance, audits, and security frameworks is an added advantage.
