Job Purpose:
To work together with the General Manager, Business Development to spearhead the development, implementation, and growth of Britamâs Medical Insurance product portfolio. The role involves driving product innovation, ensuring profitability, strengthening provider networks, and ensuring operational excellence to position Britam as a leading health insurer in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the design, pricing, and rollout of medical insurance products (individual and group).
2. Develop and implement a medical business strategy aligned with Britamâs overall business objectives.
3. Build strong provider networks and manage service level agreements with hospitals and TPAs.
4. Oversee underwriting, claims, and case management to ensure efficiency and profitability.
5. Drive sales support through technical input, training, and product presentations to the distribution teams.
6. Monitor business performance (loss ratios, member growth, provider costs) and initiate corrective action where needed.
7. Ensure compliance with IRA regulations and internal policies.
8. Lead, coach, and develop the Medical Insurance team.
9. Deliver on performance requirements as defined in the departmentsâ strategy map, balanced scorecard and Personal Scorecard.
10. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
- Bachelorâs Degree in a business related field, Insurance, Health Sciences or a related field. Masterâs degree in Business is an added advantage.
- Professional qualification in Insurance (ACII, CII) or equivalent.
- 8+ years successful relevant experience, 5 of which must be in a management position (Insurance sector preferred).
- Knowledge of the Insurance industry and insurance regulatory requirements (Required)
- Results orientated with the ability to set KPIs and a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets
- Resilient, dynamic, energetic, and enthusiastic. Must be highly driven and enjoy working with people.
- Able to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and to foster and maintain successful working relationships
- Digital marketing experience, preferably in a related industry
- Ability to communicate, present and influence all levels of the organisation, including executive and C-level.
- Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of health systems, provider relations, and medical insurance regulations.
