This role ensures compliance with EACOP lifting procedures, international standards, and statutory regulations to guarantee safe and efficient lifting operations that support construction, logistics, maintenance, and operational activities. ⢠Responsibilities: - Develop and review lifting plans and risk assessments for all critical and non-critical lifts.
- Coordinate daily lifting activities across field operations including logistics yards, warehouses, PS sites, and maintenance areas.
- Ensure adequate lifting equipment, cranes, forklifts, and rigging gear are available, inspected, and certified.
- Maintain the Lifting Operations Register and ensure proper record keeping.
- Coordinate with contractors and sub-contractors to ensure lifting operations meet EACOP HSE standards.
- Supervise lifting operations to ensure compliance with approved lifting plans and permits.
- Ensure lifting team members (riggers, crane operators, banksmen, signalers) are competent and certified.
- Monitor lifting gear and accessories are used to avoid overloading or unsafe practices.
- Authorize and sign off permits for critical lifts.
- Provide on-site technical support during heavy/complex lifting operations.
- Ensure all lifting activities comply with EACOP HSE Management System, international standards (LOLER, BS, ISO, API, ASME), and national regulations.
- Conduct toolbox talks and pre-lift safety briefings with crews.
- Stop unsafe operations immediately and enforce corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations related to lifting and hoisting activities.
- Promote lifting safety culture across field operations.
- Ensure all lifting appliances and accessories are properly inspected, tested, and certified by competent authorities.
- Maintain up-to-date lifting gear registers.
- Liaise with third-party inspection agencies for statutory certifications.
- Ensure defective or expired lifting equipment is quarantined and removed from service.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and refresher training for riggers, signalers, and crane operators.
- Support local workforce development in line with national content requirements.
- Ensure awareness of updated lifting procedures among all operational staff.

⢠Qualifications: - Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Logistics, or related technical field.
- Lifting & Rigging Certification (OPITO, LEEA, or equivalent) â mandatory.
- 5 years in lifting operations within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Heavy Engineering industries.
- Proven experience in supervising heavy and complex lifting operations (100+ tons).
- Knowledge of international lifting standards (LOLER, API RP 2D, BS 7121, ISO standards).
- Experience in East Africa/remote project environments (preferred).
- Strong technical knowledge of cranes, forklifts, lifting gear, and rigging practices.
- Ability to prepare and review detailed lifting plans.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability under pressure.
- Good communication and reporting skills (English mandatory, Swahili/French an added advantage).
