Job Purpose

The Laboratory Assistant supports laboratory operations by collecting, processing, and analysing patient specimens while ensuring accurate test results, proper laboratory practices, and compliance with quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
• Valid registration where applicable.

Experience

• Previous experience in a busy laboratory setting is preferred.
• Experience performing a wide range of laboratory tests is an added advantage.

• Receive and process patient specimens for laboratory testing.
• Conduct laboratory tests within the scope of practice.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure cleanliness of the laboratory.
• Prepare laboratory reagents and supplies.
• Record and report laboratory results accurately and promptly.
• Observe laboratory safety and infection prevention procedures.
• Monitor stock levels of laboratory supplies and report shortages.
• Maintain laboratory registers and documentation.
• Support quality assurance and quality control activities.
