In 2010, after spending 13 years as a cookstove consultant in Central America and Sub-Saharan Africa, Peter started Burn Design Lab and BURN Manufacturing Co. on Vashon Island, Washington. On a shoestring budget, BURN has assembled a team of world-class designers and engineers who are equally committed to designing the most fuel-efficient cookers in the world.
In 2014, BURN launched its first full manufacturing facility in Kenya – the first and only of its kind. BURN is now the only vertically integrated modern cookstove company in sub-Saharan Africa. The solar-powered facility currently has a capacity of 250,000 stoves per month and employs over 2,500 people, half of whom are women.
Job Summary: Â Â We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Junior Marketing Officer to support the execution of our marketing strategies. This role will focus on a variety of responsibilities, including the translation of marketing collateral, digital marketing initiatives, operational tasks such as printing and distribution of materials, managing trade marketing activations, and ensuring the successful localization and execution of marketing campaigns. The ideal candidate will have a passion for marketing, a strong understanding of digital marketing, and excellent organizational skills.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Translation of Marketing Collateral:
- Translate marketing materials (e.g., brochures, product descriptions, advertisements) from English to ensure cultural relevance.
- Work closely with the Regional Marketing Operations Manager and the creative designers to ensure translations maintain the brand’s voice and messaging and marketing consistency.
Digital Marketing:
- Assist in the development and execution of digital marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including social media, email marketing, and website content, working closely with the Digital Marketing Officer.
- Monitor the performance of digital marketing initiatives, analyze results, and suggest improvements.
Operational Support:
- Oversee the printing and production of marketing collateral, ensuring materials are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
- Manage the distribution of marketing materials to sales teams and other relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure that marketing collateral is properly stored and organized for easy access.
Trade Marketing Activations:
- Assist in the planning and execution of trade marketing activities, including events, promotions as per the business strategy & directed by the Head of Electric Business – Uganda.
- Collaborate with the sales team to ensure the successful roll-out of trade marketing campaigns.
Brand Look and Feel:
- Ensure the consistent application of brand guidelines across all marketing materials, both digital and physical.
- Work with design teams to maintain a cohesive and visually appealing brand presence.
Reports Development:
- Prepare and deliver reports on marketing campaign performance, including digital metrics and ROI.
- Gather and analyze data to inform future marketing strategies and decision-making.
Collaboration with the Sales Team:
- Adapt global marketing materials for local markets, ensuring relevance and cultural alignment.
- Collaborate with local teams to understand market-specific needs and adjust marketing strategies accordingly.
Marketing Execution:
- Support the execution of local marketing campaigns, ensuring all activities are completed on time and within budget.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure smooth execution of marketing initiatives.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience (1-2 years) in a marketing or operational support role.
- Strong understanding of digital marketing channels and strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and basic knowledge of digital marketing tools (e.g., Google Analytics, social media platforms).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in working with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of the local market trends and consumer behaviours is a plus.
- Previous experience in trade marketing or event management is a plus.
