Department: Medical Directorate

Overall job objective:

To support and guide the clinical team in diagnosis and management of patient conditions by performing imaging services as requested.

Functional Outputs/Activities per key performance area:

Imaging Services

• Prepare eligible individuals for imaging procedures: explaining, positioning, and providing clarification to individual’s queries.
• Perform imaging procedures for the eligible individuals, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images and proper exposure techniques to aid clinical diagnosis.
• Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
• Ensure efficient and timely service delivery for patients’ by clearly prioritizing and systematically reallocating both x-ray and ultrasound scans to out-patients and in-patients.

Image Acquisition:

• Operate imaging equipment to capture high-quality images of various body parts.
• Adjust exposure settings to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality
• Utilize appropriate imaging techniques and protocols.

Quality Assurance and Safety:

• Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Adhering at all times to radiation protection and safety guidelines given by the Atomic Energy Council (AEC) to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary radiation exposure.
• Conduct basic quality assurance procedures for X-ray services.
• Maintain strict infection control measures in line with Hospital prevention protocols
• Monitor and manage radiation exposure levels.

Data Management and Reporting:

• Record patient information, procedure details, and store digital image findings accurately in the hospital’s data management system.
• Assist in collecting and managing radiological data for reporting to key stakeholders.
• Perform data entry on a variety of electronic platforms to a high standard of quality.
• Support in the preparation of AEC reports.
• Provide regular updates on the number of X-rays performed, diagnoses made, and any equipment-related issues.
• Write accurate X-Ray reports for patients presenting for imaging services.

Machine Maintenance:

• Ensure that all imaging equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functional.
• Report any faults to the Head of Imaging services, Head of Diagnostics and Pharmacy or to the Biomedical Engineer, as well as the Medical Director.

Collaboration:

• Work closely with clinical, laboratory, and community teams to plan and deliver quality and timely radiography services to targeted communities and individuals.
• Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure timely interpretation of radiographs and accurate documentation of results.
• Proactively support troubleshooting processes to ensure minimal interruption of imaging service provision

Financial Management

• Managing and accounting for allocated resources especially the consumables by compiling and submitting relevant reports
• Ensuring adherence to the unit budget to ensure optimal use of resources

Risk Management

• Evaluating the patient’s medical history, the potential benefits of the procedure, and the associated risks
• Continuously assesses risk inherent in department and ensure adherence to mitigation measures in place

Compliance

• Adherance to high ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality is paramount.
• Adhere to all CoRSU Policies and Procedures

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography/Medical Imaging
• Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals’ Council.
