JOB DETAILS: Activities The job holder shall have the following responsibilities: • Support the Company to adhere to the company’s Human Rights Commitments including to implement the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the United Nations Global Compact Principles, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, the fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organisation and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. Support the implementation of the Company’s Human Rights Policy. • Support Company’s implementation of Ugandan laws and policies with respect to Human Rights, including the Ugandan National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. • Ensure the implementation by Company and the Tilenga Project of the Human Rights Impact Assessment and assist with the conduct of any future Human Rights Impact Assessment. • Implement Company’s human rights due diligence including assisting with the organization and secretariat of TEPU’s Human Rights Committee, ensuring that decisions are documented and monitoring implementation. • Proactively promote awareness and understanding of the Company, Subsidiary and Tilenga Projects’ Human Rights commitments both internally and externally. • Ensure adequate systems and processes are in place to appropriately monitor Human Rights issues and to ensure mitigation of Human Rights impacts. • Ensure adequate Human Rights Reporting including in relation to the Human Rights Impact Assessment Action Plan. • Carry out research and provide advice on matters of concern in relation to human rights. • Attend and participate in external meetings, workshops and webinars on human rights related questions. • Carry out verifications to ensure compliance with international and local human rights laws and best international practice. • Ensure that the standards expected by the Company are consistently applied. • Whenever and as often as necessary, coordinate and share experiences with the midstream human rights team. • Participate in workshops and legal committees on human rights related topics. • Prepare relevant reports weekly, quarterly, annual for internal and HQ purposes. • Conduct site verification visits when required. • Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications/Experience required Qualification: • Degree Qualified in law, human rights or related degree (Minimum upper second) Experience: • CSO experience is added advantage but is not essential. • Basic understanding of the business environment within which TEPU operates. • At least 3 years’ experience as a lawyer / human rights practitioner or in related discipline. • Excellent writing skills are essential • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – must be able to communicate effectively, articulate their view verbally and actively listen to other points of view. • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and international business environment. • Very good analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Ability to cope with and work in high pressure environment. • IT literacy – must be proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and Access); familiarity with modern records management software applications is an added advantage.
