Position Summary The History/CRE Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and effective instruction in History and Christian Religious Education (CRE) to secondary school students in the Serere community, in line with the national curriculum. The role combines strong subject mastery with practical, learner-centered teaching methods, equipping students with historical understanding, moral and spiritual grounding, critical thinking, and citizenship values needed for academic advancement and responsible living. The History/CRE Teacher works closely with the Director of Studies, fellow subject teachers, and AsOne Ministries leadership to promote academic excellence and nurture studentsâ character and faith within a Christ-centered learning environment. Key Responsibilities Curriculum Delivery & Instruction - Plan, prepare, and deliver History and Christian Religious Education (CRE) lessons in line with the national secondary curriculum and Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) syllabus requirements.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment schedules for all assigned classes (O-Level and/or A-Level as applicable).
- Deliver clear, engaging lessons that build strong understanding of historical events, causes and effects, and biblical/theological concepts and their application to daily life.
- Use varied teaching methods, including storytelling, debates, role-play, discussions, and source-based analysis, to accommodate different learning styles and ability levels.
- Set, administer, and mark class tests, assignments, and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Track learner performance and progress, identifying gaps and providing remedial support where needed.
- Prepare students for national examinations (UCE/UACE) and internal assessments, ensuring full syllabus coverage within the academic calendar.
- Guide students in the use of historical sources, maps, timelines, and reference materials, as well as Bible study and scripture analysis for CRE.
- Integrate values education, citizenship, moral formation, and national/global awareness into lessons in line with Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) guidelines.
Spiritual Formation & Mentorship - Lead or support devotions, chapel services, and Bible study sessions for students as part of the schoolâs Christ-centered environment.
- Mentor students in developing sound moral character, ethical decision-making, and a personal relationship with Christ.
- Encourage participation in debate clubs, history/CRE quizzes, drama, and academic competitions related to History and Religious Education.
- Provide guidance and support to students struggling with History or CRE concepts, including extra tuition where needed.
- Model discipline, integrity, and a strong work ethic that inspires confidence in the Humanities and reflects Christian values.
Resource & Records Management - Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and continuous assessment in line with school policy.
- Contribute to the budgeting and procurement process for textbooks, Bibles, maps, historical resource materials, and teaching aids.
- Ensure proper care, maintenance, and stock control of textbooks, reference materials, and instructional resources.
- Maintain an organized bank of past papers, source materials, and revision aids to support examination preparation.
Teamwork & Collaboration - Work collaboratively with the Director of Studies and fellow subject teachers to align academic planning.
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff briefings, and school-wide events.
- Collaborate with school leadership on co-curricular activities, including chapel programs, guidance and counseling, and community outreach.
- Engage parents, church leaders, and the local community in supporting studentsâ moral, spiritual, and academic development where appropriate.
Other Duties - Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership as needs arise.
What Weâre Looking For Required Qualifications & Experience - Education: Bachelorâs Degree or Diploma in Education, with History and Christian Religious Education (CRE) as teaching subjects, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 yearsâ teaching experience at secondary school level, preferably teaching History and/or CRE.
- Sound knowledge of the national secondary History and CRE curriculum, UNEB syllabus, and Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines.
- Solid grounding in biblical knowledge, Christian doctrine, and ethics, with the ability to relate scripture to contemporary issues.
- Registered/licensed with the relevant Ugandan teaching body where applicable (e.g., valid Teaching Practice Certificate/registration with the Ministry of Education and Sports).
- A demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to Christ-centered education.
Behavioral Competencies - Passionate about teaching and mentoring young people in History, faith, and values.
- Patient, clear, and skilled at breaking down complex historical or theological concepts for learners at different levels.
