Health, Safety & Environment Officer job at Dalilang Foods & Beverages

Dalilang Foods & Beverages is a Ugandan FMCG manufacturer producing packaged snacks, including potato crisps, gonja chips, coated peanuts and peanut butter, alongside spring water, fruit nectars and energy drinks.

Supports the implementation of workplace safety and environmental procedures across all factory sites.

Conducts routine workplace inspections across operational and administrative areas to detect and report safety hazards.

Promotes workplace safety culture by monitoring protective equipment, assisting with safety talks, and tracking safety documentation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections across production floors, warehouses, workshops, utility areas, offices, yards, and loading zones for unsafe conditions.
• Document inspection findings and communicate safety hazards to responsible departments for prompt correction.
• Participate in toolbox talks and assist in explaining practical safety practices to employees.
• Perform scheduled visual checks of fire extinguishers, emergency signage, first aid points, evacuation routes, spill kits, and eyewash stations.
• Assist with incident reporting by collecting factual information, authorized photographs, witness details, and immediate corrective actions, leaving formal investigations to experienced personnel.
• Observe permit to work activities such as hot work, confined space entry, work at height, and electrical isolation while leaving authorization to designated personnel.
• Monitor environmental controls including waste segregation, spill prevention, wastewater controls, and safe chemical storage.
• Support personal protective equipment issuance and verify that employees use proper protective gear correctly.
• Maintain accurate training records, inspection forms, incident logs, corrective action registers, and toolbox talk attendance sheets.
• Escalate or halt obviously dangerous activities strictly in accordance with company safety procedures.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree, Higher Diploma, Diploma, National Diploma, National Certificate, technical qualification, or recognized professional safety training in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Public Health, Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Disaster Management, or related areas.
• Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) supplemented with recognized HSE training.
• Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) paired with an occupational safety certificate.

Experience

• No prior work experience required.
• Must complete onboarding covering factory hazards, emergency response, fire safety, PPE, hazard reporting, chemical safety, machine safety, environmental controls, and incident procedures.
