We are looking for a qualified, experienced and result oriented professional to fill the following vacancy. JOB PURPOSE: To lead and manage a converged, multimedia sports desk. The role focuses on innovating and generating world-class sports content across print, broadcast, and digital platforms while upholding the highest standards of journalistic ethics, editorial policy, and deadlines Responsibilities - Desk Management: Take overall charge of the NMGU Sports Desk across TV, Print, Radio, and Online platforms.
- Team Deployment: Assign and supervise sports reporters, correspondents, and photographers to cover events and deliver high-quality stories.
- Editorial Supervision: Manage and review the performance of sports Sub-Editors (for Daily Monitor and Ennyanda) and TV Sports Bulletin Producers.
- Content Strategy: Attend editorial meetings and oversee the sourcing, generation, processing, and timely publication of sports content.
- Compliance & Ethics: Ensure all sports content aligns with the NMG Editorial Policy Guidelines, meets house styles, is libel-free, and respects journalism ethics.
- Content Creation: Write professional sports commentaries, editorials, and actively participate in sports programming across multiple platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: - Academic: Bachelor's degree Journalism, Mass Communication, or in a related field, from a recognized institution.
- Experience: Proven experience managing teams, preferably within a busy multimedia newsroom environment.
- Domain Knowledge: A deep passion for and strong knowledge of local and international sports.
- Digital Literacy: Strong familiarity with multimedia storytelling formats and digital/social media platforms.
CORE COMPETENCIES - Editorial Excellence: Exceptional writing, editing, reporting, and proofreading skills with strict attention to grammar and detail.
- Leadership & Performance Management: Proven ability to track, review, and drive team performance effectively.
- Organization: Strong coordination skills to collate sports materials from multiple sources under tight deadlines
