This role offers early-career professionals exposure to financial reporting standards, tax processes, and external audit support within a regulated utility environment. Impact The Graduate Trainee will assist the reporting team in maintaining financial integrity, supporting audit readiness, and improving the efficiency and compliance of UEDCLâs financial reporting systems. Key Result Areas - Assist in compiling financial data for preparation of draft financial reports in line with IPSAS/GAAP.
- Help gather and organize supporting documents for monthly and quarterly management accounts.
- Participate in journal preparation, data validation, and account reconciliations.
- Support documentation needed for closing checklists.
- Help compile supporting schedules for tax returns (e.g., VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax).
- Assist in tracking submission timelines and maintaining tax filing records.
- Organize documentation for statutory audits and respond to simple audit requests.
- Maintain logs of resolved and pending audit issues for tracking.
- Support data quality checks and documentation reviews for reporting accuracy.
- Assist in reviewing compliance checklists and control documentation.
- Engage in structured learning around IPSAS, tax laws, and audit practices.
- Participate in interdepartmental collaboration to understand finance operations holistically.
Expected Outputs - Draft working schedules for financial statements prepared
- Month-end support tasks completed (reconciliations, journal preparation)
- Organized records of tax returns and related submissions
- Audit documentation prepared and filed accurately
- Participation in training sessions and documented knowledge gained
- Demonstrated improvement in analytical and compliance tasks
Person Specifications Academic Qualifications - Bachelorâs degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce from a recognized university
- Must have graduated within the last three (3) years
- Progress toward CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification is an added advantage
Experience - No prior work experience required
Competencies - Basic knowledge of accounting standards (IPSAS/GAAP) and financial principles
- Attention to detail and strong numerical aptitude
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data
- Familiarity with Excel and financial systems (e.g., ERP) is an advantage
- Integrity, accountability, and a keen interest in audit and compliance
- Effective communication and willingness to work in a team environment
