Position Summary The Geography/Entrepreneurship Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and effective instruction in Geography and Entrepreneurship Education to secondary school students in the Serere community, in line with the national curriculum. The role combines strong subject mastery with practical, learner-centered teaching methods, equipping students with spatial and environmental understanding alongside business, financial literacy, and enterprise skills needed for academic advancement and sustainable livelihoods. The Geography/Entrepreneurship Teacher works closely with the Director of Studies, fellow subject teachers, and AsOne Ministries leadership to promote academic excellence and nurture studentsâ practical skills for self-reliance within a Christ-centered learning environment. Key Responsibilities Curriculum Delivery & Instruction - Plan, prepare, and deliver Geography and Entrepreneurship Education lessons in line with the national secondary curriculum and Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) syllabus requirements.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessment schedules for all assigned classes (O-Level and/or A-Level as applicable).
- Deliver clear, engaging lessons that build strong understanding of physical and human geography, map work, and environmental processes, as well as core business, financial literacy, and enterprise concepts.
- Use varied teaching methods, including fieldwork, map reading, case studies, business simulations, and practical enterprise projects, to accommodate different learning styles and ability levels.
- Set, administer, and mark class tests, assignments, and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Track learner performance and progress, identifying gaps and providing remedial support where needed.
- Prepare students for national examinations (UCE/UACE) and internal assessments, ensuring full syllabus coverage within the academic calendar.
- Guide students in map reading, interpretation of statistics, graphs, and geographical data, as well as preparation of business plans and enterprise proposals.
- Integrate cross-cutting issues such as environmental conservation, climate change awareness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial mindset development in line with Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) guidelines.
Practical & Field-Based Instruction - Organize and supervise geographical fieldwork, site visits, and environmental studies relevant to the local community and syllabus requirements.
- Guide students in the safe and correct use of geographical tools and instruments (maps, compasses, rain gauges, GPS where available).
- Plan and supervise practical entrepreneurship activities, including small enterprise/business projects, school clubs, or income-generating student initiatives.
- Coordinate with school administration on procurement of maps, charts, and materials needed for practical geography and enterprise activities.
- Organize demonstrations, business fairs, exhibitions, or STEM/enterprise-related activities that reinforce classroom learning with real-world application.
Student Guidance & Mentorship - Mentor students interested in geography, environmental science, business, and enterprise-related career paths, including further studies and vocational/technical training.
- Encourage participation in geography clubs, entrepreneurship/business clubs, competitions, quizzes, and academic exhibitions.
- Provide guidance and support to students struggling with Geography or Entrepreneurship concepts, including extra tuition where needed.
- Model discipline, resourcefulness, and a strong work ethic that inspires confidence in the sciences and enterprise skills, and reflects Christian values.
- Support students in developing practical income-generating and self-reliance skills that align with AsOne Ministriesâ focus on sustainable community development.
Resource & Records Management - Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and continuous assessment in line with school policy.
- Contribute to the budgeting and procurement process for textbooks, maps, atlases, business resource materials, and teaching aids.
- Ensure proper care, maintenance, and stock control of geographical instruments, business project materials, textbooks, and instructional resources.
- Maintain an organized bank of past papers, case studies, and revision aids to support examination preparation.
Teamwork & Collaboration - Work collaboratively with the Director of Studies and fellow subject teachers to align academic planning.
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff briefings, and school-wide events.
- Collaborate with school leadership on co-curricular activities related to agriculture, enterprise development, and environmental stewardship.
- Engage parents and the local community in supporting studentsâ practical geography and entrepreneurship learning where appropriate, including linking students to local business mentors where possible.
Other Duties - Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership as needs arise.
What Weâre Looking For Required Qualifications & Experience - Education: Bachelorâs Degree or Diploma in Education, with Geography and Entrepreneurship Education as teaching subjects, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 yearsâ teaching experience at secondary school level, preferably teaching Geography and/or Entrepreneurship Education.
- Sound knowledge of the national secondary Geography and Entrepreneurship Education curriculum, UNEB syllabus, and Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines.
- Practical experience in fieldwork supervision, map work instruction, and guiding student business/enterprise projects.
- Registered/licensed with the relevant Ugandan teaching body where applicable (e.g., valid Teaching Practice Certificate/registration with the Ministry of Education and Sports).
- A demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to Christ-centered education.
