Response.
Job Summary: The Communications Assistant is responsible
for the strategic development and management of the country program. The
incumbent supports Oxfam’s impact locally, regionally, continentally and
globally through ensuring program alignment to the key strategic objectives and
program standards. The jobholder also supports resource mobilisation,
specifically for humanitarian/ resilience elements of the strategy as well as
Governance and Accountability and Resilient Livelihoods. The incumbent ensures
that the promotion of women’s rights is at the heart of all Oxfam in Uganda’s
program work
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
Plan,
coordinate, produce and distribute a balanced program monthly newsletter to key
stakeholders (internal and external)
·
Manage
and update social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Facebookwork,
photo databases and YouTube with a clear social media content plan and
compelling digital products. This will also include providing regular analytics
·
Consistently,
creatively and strategically package information for social media use in a
timely manner
·
Content
administration of the website – Upload and share up to date content on the
organizational website
·
Support
documentation of different projects across the program. This will include
content gathering, reviewing and providing feedback on products like videos,
publications in line with the branding guidelines as well as ensuring that the
products are well packaged for the different audiences.
·
Support
national and global campaigns by actively participating in planning and
implementation processes. The focus will be on digital campaign strategies and
digital asset development including share graphics, videos among others.
·
Support
the administrative and logistic part of the communications role including
reviewing IEC materials, liaising with printers and other suppliers to ensure
production of different materials is in line with branding guidelines,
organizing press activities among others.
·
Support
media relations and engagements including media invites, media pitches as well
as preparing media products. You will also work with the existing tools to
monitor the media and provide the press clippings as well as regularly update
the media contact list
·
Support
in seeking ways to creatively communicate our work, enabling the exploitation
of new media and online opportunities such as blogging and broadcast
technologies.

Provide
job support to the Acting Media and Communications Coordinator in the
implementation of the Annual Operation plan
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The applicant
for the Oxfam Communications Assistant job must hold a Bachelors’ degree in
Mass Communications.
·
At least
one (1) year of demonstrable experience in Communications or similar role.
·
Good
understanding and experience of working with the media, skills in managing social
and other digital media platforms, experience working across teams to establish
digital needs and co- designing digital products, skills and experience in
writing for different platforms and packaging information.
·
Experience
in sourcing, coordinating and publishing website content.
·
Proficient
in MS Office; familiarity with design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) and
content management systems is a plus.
·
Keen attention
to detail, strong team player, Flexibility
·
Ability
to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences, openness and willingness to
learn about the application of gender, women’s rights, and diversity in all
aspects of our work as well as Commitment to Oxfam’s safeguarding policies to
ensure all people who come into contact with Oxfam are as safe as possible.
