Job Description

Supports qualified mechanics with routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and inspections across company fleet vehicles. Assists with vehicle preparation, tool and parts staging, workshop housekeeping, and updating maintenance service logs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics with routine vehicle servicing, including oil changes, filter replacement, tyre pressure checks, battery inspection, lubrication, and fluid level checks.
• Prepare vehicles for scheduled maintenance by verifying registration, mileage, and service history.
• Help inspect vehicle systems, including brakes, steering, suspension, belts, hoses, and lights under supervision.
• Prepare required tools and parts for each maintenance job and return them properly after use.
• Dispose of used oil, filters, batteries, and contaminated materials in compliance with environmental and safety procedures.
• Maintain workshop cleanliness by promptly clearing oil spills, debris, and trip hazards.
• Update vehicle history records with service dates, mileage, replaced parts, and completed maintenance tasks.
• Report all observed vehicle faults and irregularities directly to the responsible mechanic.
• Refrain from independently certifying roadworthiness or carrying out safety critical repairs beyond assigned training and authorization.
• Provide support on vehicle breakdowns where appropriate.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

• Degree, Diploma, National Diploma, National Certificate, Craft Certificate, Trade Test, vocational qualification, apprenticeship, or technical school certificate in Automotive Engineering, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Diesel Mechanics, Plant Mechanics, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Fitting, or related trades
• Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) accepted if enrolled into structured mechanical training

Experience

• No prior work experience required.
• Workshop safety, locking, lifting, jack stand, wheel chocking, and preventive servicing procedures are taught during onboarding.
