The Fixed Assets Accountant is responsible for managing the companyâs Fixed Asset Register (FAR), ensuring proper capitalization, depreciation, valuation, and disposal in compliance with IFRS, tax regulations and internal policies. The role works closely with Engineering, Operations and project teams to ensure all capital expenditure (CapEx) projects are tracked from inception to completion.
Asset recording and Valuation
The Fixed Assets Accountant maintains an accurate Fixed Assets Register in Oracle for all company assets. They review and monitor work-in-progress (WIP), ensuring timely capitalization upon project completion. The role records additions, disposals, transfers, revaluations, and impairments promptly for tracking and insurance purposes. They ensure capitalization of costs in line with IFRS and Group policies and post monthly depreciation across all asset categories ensuring completeness and accuracy. The accountant monitors for impairment indicators arising from operational, environmental, or market changes and verifies that capital expenditure is authorized, recorded, and capitalized appropriately.
Asset verification and control
The Fixed Assets Accountant leads the rollout of the companyâs first comprehensive asset verification and tagging project. They reconcile physical asset data with the FAR, investigate discrepancies, and update records for completeness and accuracy. The role establishes ongoing verification and tagging procedures to maintain FAR integrity and coordinates periodic physical verification across offices, depots, retail stations and commercial sites.
Reporting & Compliance
The Fixed Assets Accountant prepares fixed asset schedules and disclosures for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. They ensure compliance with IFRS, local tax legislation and Group asset management policies. The role supports internal and external audits by providing complete and accurate asset documentation and liaises with insurers to ensure adequate coverage for all operational and infrastructure assets.
Budget Monitoring
The Fixed Assets Accountant participates in CapEx budgeting and forecasting including accurate depreciation budgeting. They track CapEx against approved budgets and highlight variances. The role works closely with the Engineering, Operations and project teams to monitor spend, investigate discrepancies, and report status. They provide periodic budget utilization reports to management, highlighting risks and recommending corrective actions.
Process & System Improvement
The Fixed Assets Accountant collaborates with cross-functional teams to improve asset tracking from acquisition to disposal. They suggest and implement enhancements in Oracleâs asset module, including automation of assets movement requests and approvals.
Person Specification
Education, Training, Skills & Experience
The candidate must possess a Bachelorâs degree in finance, Accounting or related fields. A CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification is preferred. Proven accounting experience with fixed asset experience is an advantage. The role requires strong knowledge of accounting principles, IFRS, and relevant tax laws. Proficiency in an ERP system, with Oracle experience preferred, is required. The candidate must have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and integrity, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
