The role ensures effective management of fleet-related costs, revenues, assets, and financial risks while supporting operational efficiency and profitability. The incumbent will work closely with Fleet Operations, Procurement, Workshop, Logistics, and Senior Management to provide financial leadership, strengthen internal controls, optimize fleet performance, and support strategic business decisions. Responsibilities Financial Planning and Budgeting - Develop and coordinate annual fleet budgets and operational forecasts.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial projections for fleet operations.
- Monitor fleet expenditure against approved budgets and investigate significant variances.
- Support long-term fleet investment, replacement, and expansion planning.
- Participate in transport pricing and costing exercises to ensure profitability.
- Provide financial input into operational planning and business strategy.
Fleet Cost Management and Control - Monitor and control all fleet-related operational costs including fuel, maintenance, tires, insurance, licensing, permits, tolls, and driver allowances, Driver incentives.
- Conduct regular cost analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Review fleet expenditure and recommend measures to improve cost efficiency.
- Analyze route profitability and vehicle operating costs.
- Develop and implement cost-control initiatives across fleet operations.
- Investigate unusual or excessive costs and recommend corrective actions
- Truck base/trip base cost analysis.
Fleet Asset Management - Maintain an accurate and up-to-date fleet asset register.
- Manage accounting records relating to vehicle acquisition, depreciation, disposal, and replacement.
- Monitor vehicle life-cycle costs and utilization levels.
- Support management in evaluating fleet replacement and investment decisions.
- Coordinate periodic physical verification of fleet assets.
- Ensure compliance with company asset management policies.
Financial Reporting and Analysis - Prepare timely and accurate fleet financial reports for management review.
- Produce monthly management accounts relating to transport and fleet operations.
- Analyze operational and financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Develop financial dashboards and reports covering fleet revenue, expenses, utilization, and profitability.
- Present financial results and insights to senior management.
- Support decision-making through data-driven financial analysis.
Revenue Assurance and Profitability Monitoring - Monitor fleet revenues and ensure accurate recording and reporting.
- Verify transport billing and invoicing processes.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of revenue recognition.
- Review customer and contract profitability.
Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management - Supervise and mentor staff within the fleet finance function.
- Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Foster strong collaboration between Finance, Fleet Operations, Procurement, Workshop, and other departments.
- Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in management meetings and provide financial guidance on fleet related matters.
Person Specification Education, Training Skills & Experience Education - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field. Additional qualification in logistics will be an added advantage
Professional Qualifications - Fully qualified accountant with ACCA, CPA (Uganda), CIMA, ACA, or equivalent professional certification.
Experience - Minimum of 7 years' experience in accounting, finance, or financial management.
- At least 3 years in a senior finance role within logistics, transport, fleet management, distribution, or a related industry.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial reporting, cost management, and business analysis.
- Experience working with fleet management systems and ERP platforms will be an added advantage.
