This role is ideal for a results-driven professional who can provide strong financial leadership, ensure compliance, and support business growth through sound financial management. Â Job Description Strategy & financial planning - Drive the implementation of strategies to secure healthy cash flow, capital investment and growth in revenue through collaborative planning and analysis of market trends.
- Monitor economic trends, including factors affecting currencies in Uganda and East Africa, assessing the impact on the business and advising Management accordingly.
- Overall management, coordination and preparation of the companyâs annual budgets and monitoring the implementation of approved departmental budgets in line with business strategy and annual work plans.
- Initiate, monitor and review timely preparation and submission of accurate management accounts, financial statements and forecasts in the line with international financial reporting standards and company guidelines.
Management of systems, processes and Reporting - Uganda travel guide
- Initiate, develop and monitor the implementation of financial control systems and procedures to maintain financial discipline in regard to financial policies and regulations of the company.
- Create and build strong working relationships with Banks, insurers, corporate partners and statutory Authorities to ensure Med-Optics is viewed positively and business transactions are conducted promptly and professionally. Keep abreast of changes to statutory requirements to ensure compliance and avoidance of risk.
- Review reconciliations for accounts payable and receivable ledgers to ensure that statutory deductions (P.A.Y.E), NSSF, Local services Tax, and withholding tax) have been correctly deducted, paid and submitted to statutory authorities in line with relevant statutes, and finance policy.
- Periodically monitor the financial performance of the company against approved revenue and expenditure estimates and prepare regular reports to advise management and the Board of Directors on budgetary control measures within agreed reporting deadlines.
- Review and approve documents/reports regarding procurement, distribution, allocation and appropriate use of assets, facilities, materials, staff salaries and other expenditures.
- In collaboration with the Human Resource Manager, periodically review staff salaries, benefits and bonus structures, and provide clear information, recommendations and forecasts of costs, risks and opportunities to management to facilitate clear decision-making. Prepare and manage the payroll.
- To be conversant with all company held contracts, agreements and insurance arrangements, advising and negotiating in advance of renewal where necessary.
- Schedule and oversee annual stocktaking.
- Drive, oversee and assess the implementation of digitized accounting software, and ensure adequate, secure and regular backup systems.
Performance Management - Develop and implement reporting of key management information, ensuring data integrity and timely communication to the executive committee and board to support decision making
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and year âto-date sales flash and monthly cash forecasts with appropriate recommendations to secure sound financial planning and liquidity.
- Develop performance benchmarks and present analysis of profitability for each service center and for Med-Optics as a whole. Manage performance against budget.
- Develop performance indicators for efficiency and drive progress towards sound financial decision making in leaders.
- Prepare recommendations for Centre targets through comprehensive analysis of actual operational costs for each Centre.
Accountability & Controls - Ensure thorough preparation for audit and implement annual internal audit findings related to financial management of the company and in line with the auditing standards and guidelines.
- Establish periodic reviews of internal systems to detect prevent and discourage fraudulent transactions, insider âdealing and other forms of malpractice.
- Drive the proactive organization and upkeep of records, being the custodian, reviewer and organizer of the general ledger, chart of accounts and all financial and management reporting information. Ensure adequate orderly records are kept and disposed of when necessary.
- Keep a firm grip on debtors and credit facilities to ensure adequate cash-flow management
- Develop and maintain the financial procedures manual and ensure dissemination of relevant procedures and practices to team members and partners.
Accountability & Controls - Develop a system for maintaining a high âperformance finance department through setting of targets for the finance team with clear key performance indicators and giving regular constructive feedback, coaching and mentoring.
- Ensure balance in the distribution of responsibilities and build a cohesive and well-informed team.
- Lead by example in prioritizing, work planning and timely completion of tasks.
- Build strong communication and cohesion by holding and attending regular finance, leadership and Centre meetings.
ISO â Quality management system - Oversee the implementation and maintenance of ISO standards across all departments, support in conducting regular internal audits, and providing training to enhance adherence to ISO requirements

- Membership of ACCA OR CPA
- Good IT skills in relevant ERP systems and a strong understanding of finance and accounting finance
- Three years of working experience at a senior management level is an added advantage
- Retail or business environment experience is an asset.
