About Urban Greens Urban Greens Ltd is an agritech business focused on making hydroponics & aquaponics accessible to urban growers. We believe in transforming urban landscapes by providing sustainable and healthier food sources. By promoting urban food production, we aim to generate quality jobs, income, and benefit the climate and environment. The company currently has 19 employees and operates on a demo farm in Kansanga, Kampala. Simultaneously, we run a network of 30 urban growers that deliver their production back to us, and we jointly market the products. Role Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Urban Agronomist to join our team, focusing on the maintenance and optimization of our customers' urban greens systems and our in-house demo farms. This is a field-based role that requires extensive travel within and around Kampala using public transport means. The ideal candidate will be the face of our input delivery service, ensuring the health, productivity, and sustainability of our customers' systems. Key Responsibilities 1. Conduct customer site visits: - Provide Pest & Disease management to client sites, focusing on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of pests and diseases.
- Provide water and nutrient management
2. On-Site Client Advisory: - Serve as the primary on-site agronomy advisor, providing clients with immediate, practical guidance on best practices for crop management, transplanting, and harvesting, with access to backup support from our central agronomy team.
3. Nursery & Demo-farm Support: - Contribute to the efficient management of our central nursery to guarantee quality seedlings, and assist in the distribution of seedlings to client sites.
- Provide hands-on support for our demonstration farms.
4. Detailed Reporting: - Maintain field service records, documenting all treatments, input applications, and system data for internal tracking, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Skills - Degree: A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, or a related agricultural field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of practical experience in pest and disease management, fertilizer management, and providing farmer advisory services.
- Horticultural Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of horticulture crops, including their nutritional needs and common pests.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with customers and provide clear, actionable advice.
- Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel extensively within and around Kampala using public transport for daily service rounds.
- Motorcycle Experience: Prior experience operating a motorcycle is a plus
- Urban Farming Experience: Familiarity with farming techniques such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and green house farming is a plus.
