Position Summary As the Farmer Training Coordinator at AsOne Ministries, your role goes beyond delivering lessons in a field. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering practical, Christ-centered agricultural training to farmers in the community, building their capacity in sustainable farming practices, agribusiness, and household food security. You will work closely with lead farmers, extension partners, and the wider AsOne agriculture team to ensure training translates into real, lasting improvements in farmers' livelihoods. Key Responsibilities Training & Extension Responsibilities - Design, plan, and deliver practical, hands-on training sessions for farmers on modern agronomic practices, crop and livestock management, soil health, and post-harvest handling.
- Develop simple, easy-to-understand training curricula, manuals, and demonstration materials tailored to the local farming context and literacy levels.
- Identify, train, and mentor lead farmers and farmer groups to serve as local champions and peer trainers within their communities.
- Establish and maintain demonstration gardens/plots to showcase best practices and new farming techniques.
- Conduct farm visits and one-on-one coaching to reinforce training content and address individual farmer challenges.
- Introduce and promote climate-smart, sustainable, and environmentally responsible farming practices.
- Support farmers in basic agribusiness skills, including record-keeping, budgeting, value addition, and market linkages.
- Integrate biblical principles of stewardship, diligence, and community into training content, fostering both agricultural and spiritual growth.
- Organize farmer field days, exchange visits, and group learning events to encourage peer learning and motivation.
- Connecting the organization to the different companies that supply agricultural in puts
- Advise farmers on new agricultural in puts like the seeds of good quality yields and animal breeds
Monitoring & Administrative Responsibilities - Maintain accurate records of training sessions, farmer attendance, and topics covered.
- Monitor and document farmers' adoption of trained practices and the impact on yields, income, and food security.
- Compile and submit regular training reports, statistics, and success stories to the community managers
- Support planning and budgeting for training activities, demonstration plots, and farmer input needs.
- Maintain an inventory of training materials, tools, and demonstration plot supplies.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor or partner reporting requirements related to training activities.
- Assist in the preparation for and follow-up on monitoring visits, evaluations, or audits by partners or donors.
Customer Care & Stakeholder Relations - Engage every farmer with respect, patience, and encouragement, regardless of their farming experience or literacy level.
- Communicate training content clearly and practically, checking for understanding and adapting methods to farmers' needs.
- Listen to farmers' challenges, questions, and feedback with empathy, and follow up on concerns raised during training or farm visits.
- Handle disagreements or dissatisfaction among farmers or farmer groups calmly and fairly, escalating serious issues to the Agriculture Program Manager where necessary.
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with farmers, local leaders, agricultural extension officers, and partner organizations.
- Represent AsOne Ministries professionally and courteously in all interactions with community members, government agriculture offices, and development partners.
- Model Christ-like compassion, patience, and encouragement in every interaction with farmers and stakeholders, reinforcing AsOne's holistic, people-first approach to agricultural development.
Collaborative & Team Duties - Work closely with the Agriculture Program Manager, farm staff, and other AsOne departments to align training with broader program goals.
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and program review discussions.
- Collaborate with local government agricultural extension services, NGOs, and agribusiness partners to strengthen training content and farmer support.
- Participate in staff devotions, fellowships, and outreach initiatives as part of the AsOne community.
Professional Development - Reflect on training methods and farmer outcomes, and pursue continuous personal and professional growth.
- Attend relevant agricultural training, workshops, and conferences to stay current with best practices.
- Stay informed on emerging trends in sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and rural livelihoods relevant to the community served.
Other Duties - Perform additional duties as assigned by the Agriculture Program Manager or administration as needs arise.
What We're Looking For Required Qualifications & Experience - Education: Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, Agribusiness, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in farmer training, agricultural extension, or community-based agriculture programs.
- Solid understanding of sustainable farming practices, crop and/or livestock management, and rural livelihoods in the local context.
- A demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to Christ-centered community development is an added advantage.
Behavioral Competencies - Patient, approachable, and encouraging, with a genuine passion for empowering farmers.
- Strong facilitation, teaching, and communication skills, able to simplify technical concepts for varied audiences.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in the field with minimal supervision.
