JOB DETAILS:

This position is primarily responsible for providing logistical support and driving for CWS field staff

and visitors when necessary

Key relationships:

Work Environment

• Field environment, Periodic travel to other field locations (Mbarara and Kampala) as may be required.

Responsibilities

Core Job Responsibilities:

Program Administration (60%)

• Drives CWS Africa motor vehicles to complete assigned duties.
• Cleans and cares for official CWS Africa vehicles.
• Conducts regular checks of vehicles to ensure that they are mechanically sound and in good working order and reports any problems noted to the Admin Manager and initiates request for repair or service.
• Provides safe transportation to and from field locations, meetings and other destinations for CWS Africa staff and visitors on official business.
• Adhere to road safety regulations and ensure the well-being of passengers.
• Transports goods, equipment, and materials to working sites as needed.
• Ensures the secure loading and unloading of items, taking care to prevent damage.
• Keeps and maintains record of office supplies and monitors usage to avoid stock outs.
• Familiarizes him/herself- with local geography and road conditions.
• Performs general clerical duties as may be assigned and which may include photocopying and packing supplies for field team travel.
• Conducts routine maintenance checks on vehicles including checking fuel, oil, and other fluids.
• Repairs minor mechanical problems on the CWS Africa motor vehicles after confirming the same with the Operation Manager.
• Obtains quotations and makes simple purchases on behalf of the office and as per instructions by the operation and/ Program team.
• Ensures that the fuel level in each vehicle does not always go below half tank.
• Maintains effective communication with other staff members.
• Reports any issues or concerns promptly.

Compliance (15%)

• Adheres to the Organization’s policies and guidelines related to vehicle use and safety.
• Ensures compliance with local traffic regulations and legal requirements.

Data Management and Analysis (20%)

• Maintains accurate records of deliveries made to other offices in the CWS Africa delivery book.
• Maintains accurate records of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption.
• Submits regular reports on vehicle maintenance and usage to the Operations Manager.

Additional Responsibilities (5%)

• Any other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

Experience:

• A minimum of two (2) years of driving experience (category B, C1 & C) for both manual and automatic vehicles is required.
• Experience in Driving Category A1 and/ A2 is an added advantage

Skills:

• Working knowledge of basic motor vehicle mechanics and required.
• Good working knowledge of driving in rural areas
• Good working knowledge of Nakivale Refugee Settlement is an added advantage.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Good knowledge of Uganda rural areas.
• Strong computer skills, in particular Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
• Proficiency in Kiswahili is an added advantage

Education & Certifications:

• Secondary School or equivalent required.
• Valid Driving License Class B, C1, C is required
• Defensive Driving Certificate is required

Important Requirements:

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral,

• Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding and PSEAH (Prevention of Sexual, Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment) risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding PSEAH practices, understand the child safeguarding and PSEAH Policies and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding and PSEAH Policies.

Special Requirements:

• The candidate should be in good health, willing and able to travel extensively in often difficult conditions, and have a high degree of flexibility. Must have proof of Yellow Fever vaccination before traveling for CWS  Africa.
• This position is based in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Western Uganda.
• This position requires the use of laptops at all times, competence in Microsoft office packages is required.
• Background check which includes references, and an educational and criminal check is required before the start of employment.
• Environmental: Incumbents in this position will be exposed to excessive noise, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity, dust and infectious diseases, harsh weather climates, long work hours, bumpy roads, extended travel, excessive sun exposure, and non-ventilated spaces.
• The US Embassy rates Uganda as security level 3; incumbents should exercise normal security precaution.

• All employees should be prepared to work from the CWS office within their location of hire. Remote work arrangements may vary depending on location and the governing rulings regarding the prevailing context
